We were recommended to come here. What a find. It was very quiet when we came and the monks made us so welcome. What a tranquil and calm place. Beautiful views. Astounding history. We then recommended it to all our guests when they came for our wedding

We drove up and there is space for parking. It's quite an uphill 4klm walk from Assisi but many seem to travel the way of St Francis. Delightful buildings set in cool woodlands (so good on a hot day tho if you walk up to the place you'll be in full sunshine) and tiny entrances to squeeze through to view St Francis's place to pray. Then through to explore the hermitage. Delightful tranquil and interesting place to visit, for those of faith or without.

St.Francis' hermitage was the highlight of my stay in Assisi. It is a place of meditation where one can take the easy walking trail or venture into the more difficult , strenuous hikes where St.Francis used to meditate / pray. The sacred silence & intoxicating mountain fresh air all converged to offer me the ultimate spiritual experience . My only regret is that I told the cab driver to pick me up after one hour . I would have stayed there all morning. You may, if you wish, stay for a planned retreat. Just make sure you reserve the place through your parish priest or deacon from back home. This is definitely on my bucket list.

It is a peaceful and lovely place nested in the forest. For us a must-see in the surroundings of Assisi.

We started out walking up the 4km via the nature trail, then about 1/2 way up realized that the cutoff to the Eremo was closed via gate. We turned around and went to a store nearby to have them call a cab for us, as there were not any to be found.
By the time we were dropped off, it was getting late in the afternoon and it was very quiet and peaceful here. Very few visitors, and the whole area was just beautiful with great views and lovely walking paths all over.
We also loved sitting quietly in the chapel.
Our favorite part of this journey was praying the rosary with the Monks and some Nuns in the church. It was in Italian, which was even more beautiful! We walked the 4km down slowly and just took in this special time that was reflective and prayerful.
We look forward to another journey here in the future!
