I am a regular visitor to Alla Madonna del Piatto and last year, I chose to go in October to coincide with the olive harvest. It was a truly wonderful experience. September and October are splendid months to visit Assisi; the colours of Autumn are at the height of their glory and a soft light illuminates the mountains surrounding the beautiful guesthouse. Letizia, one of the owners, will arrange a bespoke olive harvest experience for you which allows you to fully appreciate and enjoy this most special of festivals in Umbria: a visit to an olive mill was fascinating and greatly increased my knowledge and understanding of the many types of olive oil that are produced; the olive oil-oriented cooking class was great fun and also very informative (who knew that there were so many diverse uses for olive oil?); and an intimate olive harvest feast in a secluded olive grove was the icing on the cake.

October is the time to visit Assisi! It's a magical experience for any lover of Italian food and culture.

Room Tip: All rooms have beautiful views of the surrounding hills.

B&B does not describe Alla Madonna del Piatto...it is so much more. Run with a passion for tradition and incredible skill, Letizia and her husband offer the number one experience you can have in Assisi. Alla Madonna del Piatto offers a beautiful location with a view second to none, beautiful rooms, wonderful food and true Italian hospitality. And a visit would not be complete unless you spend the day cooking with Letizia. Her cooking methods are true Italian and ones you will use over and over again at your home or trattoria. We have cooked with her two years in a row in Assisi as well as hosted her cooking classes at our own home. It's an amazing property. You will leave truly excited about cooking all of Letizia's dishes and using the knowledge you gain to invent your own. See you soon Letizia!

We are visiting this agriturismo annually to enjoy the view of Assisi, to relax in a very quiet ambiance, hear the birds, smell the flowers and talk to the owners Letizia and Ruurd. This time - mid May - it was rather cold, but excellent for walks

What a beautiful place and gracious hostess, Letizia! She had just returned from her cookbook tour in the USA but greeted us warmly and made us feel so welcomed. The accommodations were beautiful from our room to the common living area. Our view from the bedroom window was of the countryside of Umbria and Assisi in the distance. The grounds were lovely too with fragrant flowers and plants all around and a terrace to enjoy the view. The breakfast served every morning consisted of homemade bread, jams and yogurt! I loved how the coffee was served with warm milk! One morning we had delicious bread pudding.
We also enjoyed a fun cooking class along with a group of American students. The B&B is close to Assisi and some guests even hike to the city. I would love to return someday.

We could not have asked for a better overall experience than staying with and cooking with Leitzia. The B and B is high in the mountains overlooking Assisi, giving one the sense of being remote when you are actually only about 10-15 minutes from down town. The views are breathtaking. The rooms are beautiful and peaceful, the common room large and comfortable.

What makes this so very special, though, are Leitzia and Ruurd. They welcome you like old friends or beloved family from the minute you arrive. They are both so easy going and easy to talk to with all kinds of stories and information to offer.

And the cooking class! We took the class with our 11 year old foodie son and another family. Leitzia made certain everyone participated and that all knew what steps were being done. Wine was plentiful as were laughs, great information and tips and the offer to respond to any questions we might have after our return stateside. The food was phenomenal. My son declared the white lasagna to be one of the best things we ate in our 2 weeks in Italy and he is determined to make it this weekend at home.

It is my hope we can return soon to Alla Madonna del Piatto.
