The location is excellent, the staff were very nice, the hotel was very clean and the breakfast was adequate but that's as far as any positives go. I can't see how this hotel can be rated very highly at all for accommodation. There was barely room to move in the room that was allocated to us. No chair, only a foot-stall to sit on, nowhere to store luggage, no refrigerator. There was no means of making a cup of coffee and when we asked for one, were told that the room was too small to have a coffee maker on a regular basis. They were correct - essentially the 'twin' room was a single room with an extra bed added. Maybe the 'double rooms' were larger, but really, for a room to accommodate two people they need to be the same size.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from Clarastrasse. The rooms facing the street are very noisy.

Staff attentive and nice, room is small (at least mine was - extremely small). It is noisy, from the inside (i.e. you can hear your neighbor) and from the outside (it's near a tram station). Otherwise there is nothing to complain about. It's clean (modernized bath and carpets) and the ironing board (table top miniature size) did the job.

I did not try the restaurant. Therefore: no comment. The breakfast is good, but the variety is very limited (muesli, croissant, yoghurt, one cheese and one ham platter, stirred eggs, bacon and that's about it) - in the sense that I have seen better breakfasts in smaller and cheaper hotels.

Then again - talking about pricing - this is Switzerland. Things are expensive. Hands down. Period. In that light, the hotel is on the cheaper side of the spectrum, if that helps you to re-adjust your expectations.

Location-wise: It's very well located. Near enough to downtown (15 minutes walking, if you don't mind) but then again far enough for the price to be okay. I mentioned above it is near to a tram station (a blessing and a curse at the same time) - with the stay at the hotel I received a ticket for the ground transportation (bus, tram) but I did all by walking...

Very nice hotel, and the restaurant downstairs is excellent with a very good breakfast.
Prime location, very near the Rhein river and the Old City. All the amenities (CoOp, Jambo) and Manor Shopping center are within 5 minutes walk.
And of course the free public transportation within Basel is an excellent idea.

Accommodation was excellent, staff very helpful and welcome. That was my first visit in this hotel but definitely not the last one. Room was very pleasant so if someone ask - I would recommend this place to stay in Basel without a doubt ;)

We had a lovely, refurbished, triple room, on the 3rd floor at the back of the hotel, with access to a large balcony leading to a fire escape. Room 311. I'd asked for a quiet room on one of the upper floors, and got it. Very clean hotel, super friendly reception staff, good breakfast, and trams right outside. What more do you need? TIP!! Bus no.50 from the airport to the main station is FREE!! as well as all public transport as long as you have a hotel booking reciept. The hotel gives you proper travel cards upon arrival, and a 4 franc reduction card per pers to use in the resturant, which served nice evening meals. All in all..........Well Happy.
