This is a delightful place to stay. Compact rooms are comfortably furnished. I loved the tea and water station ( on each floor - I think). Fill the carafe in your room with still or sparkling water. You can also choose from a selection of excellent tea varieties. Pots in 2 sizes (individual or family) are available on lovely wooden trays. Apples and tiny sweets were set out as well when I was there. The staff are pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful.

The historic building is beautiful with sweeping staircases. The only downside for me was the somewhat long wait for the tiny elevator after check-in. Still, I would not want the building harmed to remedy this so I suggest relaxing patiently in a chair until the elevator is available.

I found the location convenient. This was the splurge for the last part of my trip and it was really worth it. The dining room was beyond my budget but looked impressive!

Being on the river is great for access to the promenade, great restaurants in the neighborhood, shops, or have a relaxing run along the river. Be aware however that this is a very noisy place during some popular events, such as the Fasnacht carnival. If you are in Basel for business during the carnival, choose a hotel outside the city center.

Room Tip: River view is lovely, but can be noisy.

Dear Ester L,

thank you for your review!
As we are located in the city center in can get noisy from time to time. You have to love our carnival which takes place once a year for three days, otherwise chose to visit Basel at another time ;)

See you soon for a run along the river,
Fabian

This is a relatively small hotel in an historic building so it's not all mod cons luxury - but therein lies its charm. You'll leave a little bit of your heart with this hotel; it's staff & incredible location. It's is Switzerland personified. Understated, impeccably polite & elegantly classy. Book the riverside rooms for a view you can't beat.
And make like the Baselers in summer, pack your swimsuit, buy a Wiklefish bag & float home for supper - you'll understand when you arrive...

The photos on the website are much better than the reality. We paid 800 franks per night for a tiny and very minimally furnished 'suite' - in an apartment near the hotel itself. The room had no air conditioning , it was unbearably hot. The breakfast ( not included) was very very basic. While waiting for the taxi back to the airport we wanted to have a quick drink at the half empty restaurant at 4:45 pm but were told we can't - because they need to prepare the tables for dinner. At 4:45 ! We insisted on having the drink there and after complaining to the manager were finally served. When we left 15 mins later many people were still sitting at their tables. Though we realize the city is very busy during Art Basel, we felt the hotel's quality and service did not at all correspond to a four star hotel.

thank you for your review.
I am sorry to read that we did not fit your needs during your stay with us.

I visited Basel for 9 nights and stayed in this lovely hotel in prime location.

Service: Excellent
Cleanliness: Excellent
Location: Central
Breakfast: Delicious

Very pleased with all the package.
It has free flowing water tap in every floor accompanied with tea and apples all day long.

Staff was really friendly and helpful. You can rent a bike for free from the hotel for unlimited hours, I suggest to tour the city with the bike since the roads are very safe and bike friendly.

I would definitely recommend the Krafft Hotel for it's premium package
