We walked by this restaurant today & it looked modern & presented well...I figured the food should match (well I hoped). A quick look on TA I was sold. We ordered food to go & the two pasta dishes - CHITARRINI ABRUZZESI CON RAGU DI POLPETTINE « ALLA ROSANNA » E SCAGLIE DI PARMIGIANO & the Tuscan sausage pasta were absolutely delicious!

Total came in just under 55 francs...

Highly recommended

We reserved for 10 people. The first impression was good, there is a nice decor and it was quite lively. However, as we were ordering food the waiter got upset that we would not take starters but only main courses. Even though I think we were quite clear about this we got served 3 huge plates with starters (worth 210 CHF) only 15 minutes later. We mentioned that this must be a misunderstanding, but instead of quickly removing the plates, the server got very annoyed and I had to engage in a quite uncomfortable 10 minute-long discussion explaining that we did not order the starters. The server insisted that we ordered the starters when we made the reservation (which is not true) and then changed his argument claiming that ordering starters was compulsory at their place... As they finally removed the starters, they did so in a “not very discreet” manner letting us know that we were not appreciated customers. Unacceptable service and therefore not to recommend!

Too much waiting after we place the order
missing lot of dishes from the menu - extremely little choice
Waiters didn't know that there was swiss wine and was superior / haughty.
Desert were offered as too many were not available anymore.
Too pricy, not worth it.

There are many Italian restaurants in Geneva, we're spoilt for choice really, although many of the menu's lack diversity and are less than inspiring. Da Matteo definitely breaks that mould. Interesting dishes coupled with pretty great service and expertly cooked pasta is a winning combo. I would actually go as far as to say all our pasta dishes were probably the best al dente I've had outside of Italy. The portions are absolutely massive, American massive- we had to get the rest to go. Prices are comparative in Geneva but in reality the portions are so huge that it's actually good value. I will definitely be returning.

The service at La Brasserie da Matteo is very friendly, and non formal. We were surrounded by Italians speaking guests, French locals and some English speakers. It was a little bit crowded considering the restaurant was half empty (20:00 weekday).

Considering how eventless and stifling the restaurant scene in Geneva is, it was wonderful to see a nice open space, non formal and young-ish staff. Felt more like Tel-Aviv rather than Geneva (maybe due to the "canicule"...), though food is far less pretentious than what most trendy TLV restaurants offer.

With all that said, the food here is not that interesting. Tried couple of dishes, including classic pasta with tomatoes and a tuna dish, which were OK, but nothing special IMHO.

It was in fact reasonably priced relative to Geneva prices, even with wine and again, the whole setup is really a nice refreshing step forward for Geneva. We'll definitely take friends and guests back there.
