It was a good thing that we had a reservation. The place was full. Our table for two was in a small room beyond the kitchen. There was a big group with about a dozen people. It is amazing how these little European cafes can pack so many people in a small area. What was nice about the room was that it had stone walls and had a rustic look to it. But it did feel claustrophobic. However, there was no other table available.

We had cheese fondue for two and it was delicious. Along with it, we had a carafe of house white wine which was ok. When we had finished soaking up the cheese with our bread, my husband asked the server to scrape the cheese that had caked at the bottom of the pot. This was done in the kitchen. The melted cheese is like cheese cookies. Yummy!

To get to this place, take the No.3 bus from Charmilles near the Cornavin train station.

Tartiflette, Sauerkraut, fondue, anything specifically Swiss or Savoyarde and regular dishes are available here. Always busy and always good. Wine in carafes. can be a bit noisy, but this only adds to the atmosphere. Little terrace in front of the store, with grapevines adding to the feel of the place. Located on a square, off the main road.

Also if you go in the evening, try the Malakoff - It's an hors d'euvre (starter) speciality of fried cheese: very rich, but definitely worth tasting.
The restaurant is very simple and unpretentious, nice laid back friendly atmosphere. The service is quick and friendly, prices are good by Geneva standards. A little gem.
We only tried the cheese, but there are a lot of other Swiss / meat options on the menu which (judging by how full the restaurant always is) must be good.
Oh, and one fondue is enough for 2 people ;)
Make sure ot book on week-ends. Open Sunday (!!).

A great Swiss bistro located in the middle of a residential district. Full of locals, Cafe du Soleil is definately an authentic experience not to be missed when visiting Geneva. The food is purely no-frills, just the way you'd have it at home. The fondue is what makes them famous, and they serve it like it should be. Cheese and bread; no vegetables, and no chocolate. Add a steak frite and salad, plus a basic list of regional wines, and you have a true rustic Swiss dining option.

Seasonal speciality is FONDUE. It is better to make a reservation. On fondue nights no matter where u seat in the restaurant u gonna smell when you exit. If weathe rpermits ask for sitting outside on the first floor. Limited sitting there, book in advance.
