Beautiful place. Great views. Modern. Wonderful deck. Web site info says there would be an orientation. There was none. So we had to contact the management a number of times to discuss the operation of the stove, the sliding door, what to do with the dead mouse we stepped on on the carpet. They never did clean up the dead mouse and blood while we stayed there for four nights. Would have given the place a 5 if we had gotten an orientation and they had cleaned up the mouse.
We stayed 6 nights and loved our visit. Gorgeous views from the terrace, comfortable, well-equipped (we cooked dinners in most nights), light, spacious. Easy check in and check out. Would definitely return.
Lots of positives, all of which outweighed the negatives. Chalet has excellent views and is very clean and spacious. Murren is a quaint town and this chalet allows you to kick back and relax. It is centrally located and close to all restaurants. Johnny was quick to answer any questions and accommodate us before we arrived. Unfortunately, being from the US, we were unaware of a few things . He said Top Apartments would meet us with keys and show us around the apartment. Problem was, we arrived on a Sunday. No one mentioned beforehand that the stores and Top Apartments were all closed on Sunday. Keys were left in mailbox for us but no instructions were provided in the chalet on how things worked. If we had been met or if instructions had been left then a lot of the negatives would have been avoided. TV’s had all been unplugged and it took us a while to figure out how to get them working. We had no idea how to work heater, expresso machine or washer. Worst part was we checked in expecting to get groceries etc. and found the only store closed. The rental states towels, toilet paper and a few other things are provided but renter must provide soap and personal bathing items. What it didn’t say is you get one towel per person ( we were there three nights ) no face or hand towels and there was half a roll of toilet paper in each bathroom and none anywhere in the chalet. With store closed.....well you can only imagine. He kept saying call Top Apartments but they were never available to help us. With all of this said, the positives were why we stayed here. We were not disappointed with the chalet itself or the views. On a side note, if you are senior citizens who find it difficult to walk up steep hills, this chalet, or maybe the entire town, is not for you. We did find his directions a bit deceiving when it came to the strenuous walk to the chalet with the luggage so be aware. Without luggage it was a tough climb for people not use to hiking.
This was our fourth visit to Mürren with our family, and the best by far, thanks in large part to the quality and comfort of the accommodation at Chalet Oberdorf.
The location, on the upper road a bit past the sports center, could not be better. The views of the beautiful Jungfrau massif across the valley are much more complete than what you see from the other end of the village (by the train station). The walk from the train station, while a bit uphill, is short. The grocery store (Coop) is 5 minutes' walk via a shortcut path by the church.
Our grandchildren really loved watching the Allmendhubel funicular go up and down; it is a short distance from the chalet deck. We took them up on it to visit the playground at the top, and then they descended back to Mürren on the Children's Adventure Trail.
The apartment itself is bright, spacious, modern, and equipped with everything you need for a relaxed and comfortable stay. The rain shower in one bathroom is particularly nice!
I could go on and on, but will, run out of superlatives. So I will simply say that everything about this apartment is top quality, and the rental, experience could not be better. The owner was very responsive to my initial and subsequent inquiries, and there is on-site management if you need anything.
I would not hesitate to recommend this apartment without qualification. I just hope we can return before I get too old for hiking!
We fell in love with Murren and the surrounding area and I know that part of our wonderful experience was this apartment and its location. We left our doorstep and were immediately in the heart of the car-free village and shops, restaurants and beautiful vistas! We spent three nights and four days here and KNOW we will be back!
The apartment had everything we needed...the two bathrooms for seven of us was helpful. Everything was clean and updated. All appliances were maintained and useable and that makes a difference e in the experience!
Thanks, Johnny for sharing your village home with us!
