All in all a very unimpressive 2 star hotel.

Rooms are small and very simple with no amenities, no air conditioning, no telephone. Rooms at the rear of the hotel look out onto a sheer rock wall - for this reason, they are dark all the time. If you open a window for ventilation, you hear constant noise (banging, yelling, music playing) from the kitchen below. Rooms have not been substantially renovated in the last 40 years. There is no elevator, and no parking.

If it cost CHF 60 a night, it would be a satisfactory 2 star. But, at CHF 110 a night single and 130 a night double, it is vastly overpriced and falls into the "any port in a storm" category.

On a positive note, the hotel is clean and the staff are polite, and it is very centrally located.

Room Tip: Be sure to take a look at the room before you put your money down!

We choose this hotel because of its location : quite close to the train station, and very close to the historic centre of Bellinzona and one of its castles. The building itself is quite old, but our room was comfortable and quiet and the breakfast was simple but fresh and good. This is one incredible city to explore, with its amazing castles, churches and museums. So the hotel turned out to be a good find in terms of location and value.

Room Tip: A comment for people who have mobility issues : there is no elevator.

This hotel is close to the train station (8 minute walk at the most), really close to the elevator to one of the castles and a big Migros (supermarket chain). The staff was friendly, the room was clean. not noisy. but small. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast was ok (coffee, juice, bread, some hard boiled eggs, cereal, milk, yoghurt, ham and cheese on a tray).

Good location in center and near train station. No air conditioning- be careful in summer. No elevation, but bags delivered to room promptly. Decent breakfast. Spotty wireless. Would stay here again.

Croce Federale is a well-located hotel in Bellinzona. Like everything in this and other parts of Switzerland, it's expensive. Not the place for travellers with cars either, as parking is difficult (just municipal parking wherever you can find it) and it's in a pedestrianized part of town, so you'll have to carry any luggage from wherever you do find a park. That said, the location is excellent and the hotel is nestled into a huge rocky edifice and overlooked by a medieval tower. Having arrived in Bellinzona without a booking, this hotel is certainly better than others we checked out. It's walking distance to everything of interest in the town. Walking the steps up to Castelgrande is a must for excellent views and if your room faces the small piazza, you'll also get great views of the Castelgrande from your bed! The rooms are not that spacious, as noted by others, and the bathrooms are a bit dated (but clean) - bring your own soap! Beds are firm and very comfortable. Breakfast, included with our room, was a bit minimal but OK.
