Terrible experience. We were with our son 6 years old, travelling from italy to netherlands and wanted a stop in nice town with quiet good sleep. Small old hotel with old ikea beds, windows going outside on entrance and restaurant of the hotel. So till two a.m. we could not open windows: hot, noisy, people talking near entrance and in the restaurant. Went to restaurant: super expensive (yet tasty) pizza. We paid for two pizzas, portion of french fries and two glasses of wine, 1 ice ball for our son and 2 espresso 95 euro! Only benefit is central location and clean room. That one sleepless night costed us more than two hundred euros. Next morning we had to drive 800 km. So felt terribly tired and dissappointed.

Stayed: May 2017

The hotel is in the heart of Bellinzona, steps away from all the sights! The hosts are kind and helpful, rooms not huge but have everything you need! Will definitely return if in Bellinzona! Also try the restaurant!

If you're looking for good, fresh, but a basic meal, this is your place. They have a ton of pizza varieties to choose from all made in an old school wood oven. The pasta is also delicious. The bonus of a place like this is that it's always open because it's part of a small hotel. Huge asset when traveling since you never know when your visit can fall on a public holiday.

This is reasonably priced by Swiss standards! It's a comfortable hotel...the rooms are fine...but the real selling points are it's perfect location in the centre of Bellinzona and it's friendly, helpful staff

We (a family with 2 teenage children) had only ever been through Bellinzona to change trains, but made the very sensible decision this time to break a Swiss-Italian journey overnight in the town. It's stunning, nestling below 3 wonderful mediaeval castles. The Hotel Croce Federale itself is at the base of the cliffs on which one castle sits, right in the centre of town (which is only 5 mins walk from the rail/bus station). The staff were very friendly, spoke excellent English, and the rooms comfortable. It also has a good pizza restaurant on the ground floor, with large covered terrace for outdoor dining. The only downside was lack of air conditioning, so you need to open the windows when the outside temperature goes into the 30s, as it did when we were there.

Room Tip: The windows are double-glazed so, if it's not very hot weather, stay at the front for nice views without the problem of noise.
