I've been to Zermatt many times although I usually take an apartment but this time I decided to treat myself to a fancy hotel. The Backstage Hotel is promoted for its design and for sure I was not disappointed with lots of thoughtful features and no expense spared. From the multi-functional bed side table (light switch next to the bed - finally!) to the super comfortable balcony seats, to the high quality bed linens and the spacious bedroom, all easy to appreciate. The breakfast was also fantastic with great coffee and a good choice of healthy options. The spa is also included in your stay and is super lovely - the hotel kindly let me have a shower there after I'd checked out and been hiking all day which was great. Where the hotel fell down slightly is on the little extras which I would say virtually all hotels of this standard now include. For example a kettle in the room but no tea or mugs. When asked apparently the kettle is for Asian guests who like noodles (????) and I can have a tea bag in my room if I upgrade to the Cube Loft room (????) and that the restaurant was closed in the evening and there was no room service - I guess because it was out of season.
