Finding the street entrance is surprisingly difficult as it blends with the other parts of the building Once inside and on the 2nd floor, you realise that this is quite an unusual place, Lots of design and decoration ideas combined into a very stylish end result.

Check-in was relaxed; you are offered a nice drink while the data is being entered and the room double-checked.

Room was spectacular, everything was there, but the most striking was its design, especially the bed which sits high on a cube that houses the bathroom and other facilities. The visual effect is simply stunning. Room has lots of little gadgets, high quality TV, BluRay player, lighting with theme settings, automatic curtains to seal off the large balcony.

Only downside was the finnicky operation of the room lights at night. You just have to try a setting and hope it doesn't wake others up.

Breakfast was very extensive with lots of attention to detail.

Recommended!

I had the pleasure to stay here for a few nights, really very nicely run, great team & lovely facilities. The art deco was certainly different, food great, staff excellent. Only complaint was my stay was not long enough, next time !!

Centrally located just 5 minutes walk from the train station, this unassuming from the outside hotel is a great experience.

We stayed for 4 nights with our 2 children (aged 11 and 8) in an amazing Family cube loft room, which had a fantastic balcony overlooking the spa in sunshine most of the day. The rooms itself was pretty cool, the kids loved their cabin space - almost like being on a cruise, whilst we enjoyed the high rise bed, and clever use of space all round, the bath looking out was a really nice touch.

All of the staff were polite, extremely helpful and knowledgeable. We happened to be staying during the Zermatt Unplugged festival, of which the hotel is a partner. We didn't realise this at booking - and the opening night meant the hotel was very busy and lively, but not a problem to us. On our last night we ate in the restaurant and drank - all gratis, which was again unexpected and totally fabulous. The 6 course tasting menu was enjoyed by all of us, epically our children who tried everything and declared it delicious.

The nearest ski hire place is literally next door, with friendly staff and a 10% discount - you can also buy ski passes from the hotel reception.

The spa is wonderful and children are welcomed with an adult, whilst we were there it opened at 3pm, however if we had wanted to use it earlier we could ask.

All in all I would recommend this hotel, and certainly stay again if we return to Zermatt.

If you are looking for a modern luxury hotel in Zermatt than this is the stop you have to make. The Backstage hotel is very central and close by the station of Zermatt (walking distance). Their rooms are very modern and different but are all great and have a balcony to sit on. When you are at the hotel - enjoy the SPA or go to the movies as they have a cinema ... you can even ask or enjoy a private viewing.
Additional the hotel has an exhibition room ( the Vernissage) where you can organize a private dining or event. The hotel restaurant has a Michelin star chef and it is a recommendation to eat with them.
Last but not least the hotel has a funky bar when party lovers can dance into the night.
All by all - for what you pay and the facilities and service you get it is definitely my recommendation in Zermatt when you look for a modern trendy place to hang out for your skiing base.
