I stayed at this hotel with my parents whilst visiting Maastricht University to see if I liked the feel of the town and the university.

I was shocked by how rude the staff were! I've never stayed anywhere that has a 4 star rating where the staff were so rude!!

We were greeted by rude staff members who made you feel as if you constantly interrupting them, if you asked for instance, 'can we have wake-up call in the morning?'

In the restaurant, the waiter actually became aggressive with my mother and had to taken away by another member of staff. Why? Simply because my mother decided that she wanted plain black tea, instead of mint tea. His boss was called who apologised to my father, but we were left shaken!

The only upside, is that at breakfast, there was a very nice lady working in the breakfast hall! So thank you to her for making this a bearable experience.

I'm usually all for second chances, but I would not stay here again, or recommend it! I hope that others have a more pleasant experience here than we did.

Hotel itself is quite alright. The rooms are well renovated and the bar has nice staff. However we showed up having reserved 4 rooms, and only 1 was ready at the promised 2 pm. A second one was ready at 3, another at 3:30 and the last one wasn’t ready until 4:30PM, well over 2,5 hours after check in time. This in all was very appalling. Restaurant was good.

Dear guest, that is a serious point of attention and we work hard in order to avoid this from happening. Unfortunately due to circumstances, it occurs sometimes that rooms are not ready in time. Don't know how long ago - ten year or already longer? - the outdated hotel- and restaurant chain van der Valk initiated its own resurrection into what it is today:
efficient and very friendly service, modern, spacious rooms, good restaurant and top notch breakfast. Most of the hotels also have a pool and some spa facilities.
Maastricht branch lives up to these new high standards. Excellent !
One item for improvement: the city center is too distant for walking and also the route along the highway is uninviting. So: the hotel offers vouchers for taxi service. This offer is limited to one drop-off location and is too expensive. Free shuttle service is available, but only a couple of days a week. Extend this service, guys!

We offer a free – discounted shuttle service in cooperation with a local taxi company. Moreover our guests save a lot of money since we offer free parking!

Nice hotel with suitably big rooms. Very polite staff. A big plus for accepting dogs.
On a minus side - The swimming pool too small with almost no space for resting around it. On the other hand, quite pleasant 3 different types of sauna.

The hotel is ideally located for visiting the historic city of Maastricht. We stayed there a few nights in the week before Christmas and the hotel was tastefully decorated.
The room was comfortable and so was the bed. The view from the bedroom window was not that great but hey, you are close to a magnificent city.
Our main issue was the breakfast. Although the offering is fantastic, for us there were too many people, hence my title "Too busy for comfort".
Having said all this, we would come back but would just have room service breakfast as we had on our first morning.
