If the Synopsis were a hotel rather than a three apartment B&B, the establishment would no doubt rate 4 or more stars. Elizabeth, the manager/owner, runs a "tight ship"; no expense has been spared to make each apartment state-of-the-art in decor such as an in-the-room refrigerator, fully equiped kitchenette and a personal computer/internet. Our room -- the front -- faced the canal, it was squeeky clean, comfortable in size, and attended by our own personal concierge -- the very knowlegeable and most hospitable Elizabeth.
The hotel itself is conveniently located in the city. We suggest using the tram to get to the Synopsis from the Central Station -- rather than a cab. We had a driver who gave us a tour of Amsterdam rather than the short direct route to the hotel. A super market and a liquor/wine store are a short walk away for providing a better selection of goodies than the room mini-bar. Utrechtstraat with a great selection of very good restaurants either up or down it, is yet another but different short walk away.
Net; would we return to the Synopsis for another Amsterdam vacation -- you bet.
