Owner description: Keukenhof? That’s the place to see spring blossom. The park is unique, world famous, and has been one of the most popular destinations in the Netherlands for sixty years now. Haven’t seen Keukenhof? Then you haven’t seen the Netherlands. You won’t find such an abundance of colours and fragrances anywhere else. More than seven million flowers form a glorious decor for the most beautiful photos. Come to Keukenhof and enjoy the ultimate spring feeling, the wonderful works of art, the surprising insipration gardens and the many flower shows.

I was appalled by what I saw at the petting zoo today. Two goats were hiding under a picknick table to escape the hoards of tourists. There were people surrounding the table, blocking any point of escape the goats might have had, taking pictures and trying to pet the goats under the table. There were dogs barking at the rabbit and birds, scaring them.

Whether petting zoos themselves are morally acceptable is a different discussion. But if you are going to have a petting zoo in a location that gets thousands of visitors a day, you need to have it supervised at all times. You need to limit the number of people who can enter at a time. You need to make sure the animals have a shelter they can retreat to where they will not be bothered. You need to make sure the tourists are not harrassing the animals when they are trying to escape. You need to keep dogs away from the neighboring paths. The current setup is irresponisble and cruel.

From amsterdam, it costs about $10 per person roundtrip to take a train to thr airport, than another $24 per person for keukenhof admission plus bus transportation to AND from schiphol. (That is a combi ticket). Even with only 1 field of flowers starting to bloom that I could see, this place is still a complete zoo. Be prepared to stand in line each ways to grab a bus (aka bring snacks!!) Also recommend packing lunch or snacks for the visit as well to save a little money. I don't regret coming out here because I would have had a fear of missing out if I didnt go, but I think they could offer a discount until the fields bloom for sure. Until then, there are 3 greenhouses jam packed with people taking selfies in front of the flowers that you can look at.

My first to time to visit the Keukenhof Park. It is early in the season so I was taking a chance and a late spell of cold winter weather has delayed alot of the color. But the gardens are big with trails, there's the windmill to climb and look over the grounds, there are at least 3 separate pavilions with orchids, tulips or other special flowers. The displays dressed around the year's theme with 2018 being "love and romance". Plus cafes located around the park. I think it would be quite well set up for the expected crowds mid to end of April. There's also a playground. We had thought it might be a disaster to bring the grandchildren but with all the paths and playground to run around I feel they would also have enjoyed it. The advantage of being early means the crowds are not present. I would recommend this as a lovely outing for anyone. Cafe food was good value and fresh too.

The first Sunday it was open this year and a bit of a grey day but still there were flowers, Most of the shops seemed to be filled with tat but still the gardens are great. Buggies available fr those who find walking difficult. Best to go early as it does get very busy.
