it is a very small museum, there was a woman working in the first room. she led us in and we could look in the rest of the rooms. if you are in the area, go there, otherwise you have to decide if its worth it.

Occupied by weavers from about the 15th century this is a totally unrenovated house., and it looks it. Last lived in by a gentleman who was there from 1948 - 2003, it is obvious that he did nothing to it - bare plaster walls and last painted in the twenties at a guess. No Farrow and Ball here. It really needs some framed information about the Leiden textile industry and some contemporary furnishing to enable one to get a better feel for the place. As it is, it's more like an abandoned squat. It is staffed by volunteer weavers who are informative and the bleak rooms hold dummies showing some of their wares e.g felted dresses with an ethnic feel at exhorbitant prices. With a little more TLC this place could justify an entrance fee - it's free now - and be a lot more pleasant and informative.

So pleased that we found this place. The lady who showed us round this quaint house is a remarkable weaver. She showed us how the ancient loom worked and described the lifestyle of the family. We looked around the house, going up the ladder-like stairs into the roof space. The lady spoke very good English and told us that the people that did the weaving today were volunteers. We bought a recently woven tea towel, that I wouldn't dream of using! I think I should frame it instead.
If you've got an hour to spare its worth a look.
