Owner description: Escher at the Palace is dedicated to the work of Holland’s most famous graphic artist M.C. Escher. Nearly all his prints are exhibited, among them Belvedere, Drawing Hands, Waterfall and Ascending and Descending. Here you can see how Escher changed fishes into birds, made water flow upstream and his less known, but very attractive early Italian landscapes. On our main- and first floor you can see how his work progressed from depicting the real world to his constructed worlds. Optical illusion is a key word in his work.An optical illusion depicts something which is in fact impossible. M.C. Escher was a master in this field. An optical illusion literally means doing puzzles with your eyes. The visitor will be able to unravel some of Escher’s mysteries like the Impossible Penrose Triangle by constructing one himself. The extra presentation “In the Eye of Escher” shows various themes in which Escher was involved, like reflection, perception and perspective.

One of the very few times I actually went to a museum or exhibition. But this one really impressed me. Somehow, the displays were very engaging and connects with my interest. Especially liked the waterfall and the Castle In the Air.
It had 3 floors of enjoyment, entrance fee was not too bad. the coffee in the cafe at the basement was good.

Thank Cliff N

Walking though the palace you keep wondering: is it art or is it science? The meticulously designed and performed works can be considered both at the same time. A lot of perspectives ;-) to be discovered!

So happy that I had the chance to visit and get acquainted with more works by this genius artist( and not only the few famous ones).

If, like me, you came across Escher in the 60s and 70s, you will enjoy discovering his history and output. If you're new to his work, prepare to be enthralled by an amazing artist and intuitive mathematician. Either way, you'll enjoy how the art is presented in this jewel of a house, staffed by friendly and helpful assistants.
