Bonnheimer Hof is definitely worth a visit - especially with kids. The estate is located a little outside of Hackenheim. The enclosure for several animals - including buffalos and peacocks - is quite an attraction. Terrace and courtyard are very nice places when the weather is fine. The rather rustic design inside fits to the old building.
Sadly the kitchen does not hold up to this great standard. The menu is rather short with typical German food without any finesse. And it tastes just like that. Not bad but not great either. The wine list profits from the associated winery Lorenz. Every wine of them is served by the glass and got a good description.
