Grand Muthu Forte do Vale
Reviewed 14 October 2009

Stayed for four nights at the Forte Do Vale in Albufeira with a group of friends. 7 blokes in this hotel and 3 in another nearby.
This hotel is in absolute perfect condition and earns it's 4 star status with ease. The apartments have huge rooms, many with two balconies. The kitchens are supplied with cooker, microwave/oven, fridgefreezer, washer/dryer, dishwasher and full cutlery and dinner services. You may need to ask for a kettle although one of our rooms had a coffee perculator. Irons are supplied.
The tv has the usual foreign channels plus BBC1, BBC2 and ITV.
A nice bar with a very good happy hour. A pool room with 3 pool tables and 4 computers for internet connection. The swimming pool was clean and nice.
The staff are wonderful.
My mate said this was the best hotel he had ever stayed in and he has been everywhere including all across Africa and Canada.
It's location couldn't be better. A 10 minute walk to wonderful beaches. It's also a 10 minute walk to the new strip which is there for tourists who generally want to go out on the beer.
It's 15-20 minutes walk to the old town which is nicer if a tad more expensive.
We found a restaurant in neither area, just 5 minutes from hotel, which was very reasonable and served wonderful food. It is called 'A Concha' on a street called Avenida Infante de Henrique. I can't praise it enough. Try the lamb chops or mixed kebab.
If you are a group out on the beer then the new strip may be for you but if you are older or a family then I would recommend the old town. As a group of 10 men in their 30's-40's we enjoyed both.
A bargain.
If you are going to Albufeira then this is really the best place to go.
I plan to go back next year with my wife and 3 young children.

This is our 2nd stay at the forte do vale, and it still does not disappoint. The location is the best thing as its situated only 15 minutes from the beautiful old town (will need to get a taxi back, due to killer hill) and only 10 minutes from the new town. the apartments themselves are a home from home, and yes they lack a kettle but i dont think boiling a pan is too difficult. However if you dont have everything you need ie hairdryer, iron, kettle then just ask at recieption and they will quickly provide anything you request.
There are far to many bars and restaurants to mention, however i will mention our personal favourites. Angelu's which is near the bakery by the tropical sol is a great relaxing bar, Guida and her husband make you feel extremley welcome and will help you with any queries you may have, her smile is infectious!
Grandmothers House is a beautiful restaurant for a special occassion the setting and the staff are very friendly another lovely restaurant in the same ilk is Tres Palmeras. Both are a deffinate must. However for a cheaper, but still excelent food you must try Paulios Italian which is near the Oura Praia hotel in the new town however its actually at the back of the strip.
Looking forward to returning with friends in November and will be back next year, its just fantastic.

I booked this hotel last year when it opened and I read all the reviews and I was not disappointment in any way. The apartments are massive, with queen size beds, the towels were changed every day, the beds were made every day. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, even down to tumble drying out towels on the last day for us!! The bar needs a little sorting, a bit of a personal touch needed here, but all in all excellent value for money, great location and an all round excellent aparthotel. A little tip for people who read a lot, there are no books out to swap with, but if you ask the receptionist she will produce a variety from the back for you to swap!!! I would go back there again and again, am trying to get weeks in May, but they re starting to fill up already!!

We went to Albufeira for our 6th time, but this was 1st time at Forte do Vale. Very nice apartments, spacious comfy clean and in great location with air condidtioning. They are fully furnished nice and modern, with lcd tv, dishwasher and washing machine, huge beds, loads of wardrobes and the shower was the best power shower ever. Maid service could be little hit and miss, sometimes a little late in the day but other than that fine, we had new towels every day and linen changed. Shame pool side bar is closed in the evening, indoor bar was fine with happy hour 5-7, beer 1.5 euros. The pool was poular but for the sake of a 5 minute walk, turn right at roundabout then 1st left, the beach was fantastic-Forte de Joao (brown sign).....idea l for families too.
Its about a 15 minute walk into the old town or taxi ride(4 euros), well worth spending evenings in the old town as opposed to the more commercial strip, most of the bars have happy hour all night, beers about 2 euros, g&t 3, or wine for 1 or 2 euros. the restaurants in the square or on the sea front are very nice, but we found a couple off the square, more family run and independent, and prices were really good about 12 euros for the Portuguese style steak as opposed to 18-20 in the square, though you can get a discount on the sea front at many of the fish and steak places. O Tunnel we went 3 times, meal for 2 inc drinks was approx 30-35 euros, (up the steps to right of the tunnel to fishermans beach) then we found a superb one, off the main square( turn right at the far end) called Shalom, a family run dutch/israeli restaurant, the mixed meat grill for 2 was 16 euros, and was delicious, followed by tia maria coffees also 2 beers, 29 euros. Shop around and go down the little side streets, you'll find some little corkers.
I would defo go back to saty at Forte do vale, we had a great time.....highly recommended.
