This hotel is lovely and very central - shopping and restaurants are all within walking distance. The room we had was very nice, overlooking the garden. Do try and get one of those. The squealing of the tires on the street below did not bother us - the street got very quiet around 11 anyway except on Saturday night - people were out partying. The restaurant was very nice - breakfast was good and we had dinner there a few nights and it was excellent. I worked recommend this hotel.

This was a great hotel, especially considering the low price.
We took the cheapest room available and it turned out to be a suite, with a huge balcony.
Great service. Besides the hotel restaurant there are several very nice restaurants within easy walking distance. There are also several inexpensive "snack bars" nearby, if your are on a budget. These snack bars are cheap places you can get a hamburger and a beer.
One tip: if you have a rental car, be sure to ask for access to their parking lot, witch is an extra 6 euros per day. Parking is terrible around the hotel. I parked in a plaza my first day and got a parking ticket. The 6 euros per day is well worth it. The lot has a garage door going to it and they give you an electric garage door opener.

The hotel is a converted old mansion with a newer annex attached.
It is on a street with restricted traffic access and facing a garden square.
Conveniently located and A short work from the ocean front and the main city square.
However rooms facing the square can hear noise from cars on a side street when windows are open.
The room was large and very nicely decorated in a classic Portuguese style with a monogrammed bedspread.
The breakfast was great. Lots of variety from cold to hot dishes.
Staff was helpful and polite.
A great value and would stay there again.

We spent Christmas vacation on the big island staying at Talisman. It’s right in the middle of city Ponta Delgada, short walking distance to all landmarks of the city. There are many good restaurants around the hotel. We ate dinner at the hotel on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The dinner is 35 Euro per person, including wine. Food is very good. Breakfast is included. It’s not your “continental breakfast” as you find in North America. It’s a full meal, include all sorts of breads, eggs, sausages, bacon, baked beans, potato, vegetables, greasy fruits, juices, coffee, tea, etc.. The staff are very friendly. We enjoyed the small balcony and watched a marching band passing by. My only complain is the bed. There is no double or queen size bed. There are two single beds pushed together with a gap in the middle which is ideal for couples.

This was our second stay at Hotel Talisman and it was another great experience. Staff are friendly, the food is fantastic (breakfasts in particular were a favourite amongst everyone in our group) and the rooms are comfortable. The hotel is located within walking distance of many great restauarants, as well as the parks and malls in town. Thank you again for a great stay.

Room Tip: Quiet rooms at the back of the hotel, away from the road by the park.
