To be fair, we only stayed at this hotel for a very short period of time so it is diffcult to evaluate all the aspects but the general impression that I got was that this is a good hotel that offers good value for money, but without being anything over the top.

Location is in the outskirts of Coimbra with an easy access from the freeway and about 15 minutes walk from the city center. Rooms were quite standard when it comes to interior, furnishing and equipment, but I would say that it was more quiet and soundproof than the average hotel of a similar size.

Facilities were great with both an outdoor and indoor pool. To take a swim in the indoor pool you had to buy a swimcap for 2€/each (if you didn't bring one from home), which isn't much money but gives a cheap impression. My advise to the hotel is to give (or lend) them for free to the guests if having the rule since it is not a lot of money and hardly is an international standard to bring with you for your vacation. There is also well-equipped gym and lots of lounge areas to spend time in if you want to stay at the hotel. The indoor parking is accessed by the normal elevator, which is practical. The architectural design of the parking is however not practical at all. There are several sharp turns that is impossible to do without 1-3 adjustments (depending on car size) and a very steep entry/exit that has one lane but where you can have a surprise (near-)collision since there is a 90 degree turn.

Service was good, with a helpful front-desk. Breakfast was also good, with a standard selection of foods. Since it is a big hotel it could be intense, so don't expect to sit down for a relaxing breakfast.

All-in-all, can't complain but can't praise either.

Service was

A modern building set at the edge of the Mondego river and just outside of the old town (a 20 minute walk), Vila Gale delivers spacious, quiet and comfortable rooms, and has a great outdoor pool. Continental breakfast was good.

Room tip: High floor.

We stayed for 2 nights. Drove from Estoril.
The objective of the stay was to visit Portugal dos Pequenitos and have some family time.
It was very hot (in the 40°C range) during our stay. The Ac was very welcoming.

The family room was nice and spacious. It is composed of a seating area which is converted into 2 beds and the main bedroom is separated by pocket doors. Each area has access to the balcony as well as its own TV. The kids sleeping area also has direct access to the door. This I was a bit uneasy about as I am a deep sleeper. I was a bit worried about the kids waking up and walking out of the room. We set up obstacles to the door however there was no escape attempt.

We always kept 1 of the door cards in the power slot so that the room was cool when we returned.

Breakfast was very good. We would take snacks for the kids as they are not big eaters first thing in the morning. Yogurt, fruit and a sandwich. Staff had no issue with this.

The staff was very nice.

We took advantage of the pool. It was very refreshing during the heat wave. Snacks by the pool are actually made inside the hotel and for this reason take some time however do eventually arrive.

Ice cream is readily available at the pool.

The spa seemed very nice and relaxing however we did not get a chance to use it.

We did park at the hotel during our stay. In/out privileges. Fee paid at check out. 7,50 a day. The parking is a bit tight but manageable.

The hotel is family friendly. The staff are great. The location is good.

The towels and bed linens are good quality and comfortable. Pools towels are also provided. No furniture on the balcony or line to hang wet towels or bathing suits.

It’s been a few years that I’ve been staying at this hotel for one night (annually).
They continue to keep their standard and professional staff. Have tried several types of rooms so I can tell you they are nice and comfortable although they deserve a small revamp...!

This place looks a bit daunting from the outside but it’s a good, modern place with good facility and very lovely staff. The room is comfortable with all mod cons. Pillows could have perhaps been better quality for this level of hotel. Plenty of plugs, functional air con and internet, opening window and good modern bathroom with powerful shower.
The bar staff were extremely helpful and recommended some excellent wine for us. Breakfast was very good standard with charming polite staff and a large selection of high-quality fresh food. For this standard of breakfast, I would suggest an improvement would be to have yoghurt fresh in bowls as opposed to plastic pots. This would be positive as the yoghurts were not great. Also Early Grey tea and availability of tea pots would improve the offering. Lastly, rather than sliced packet bread, a selection of fresh-baked loaves would have been nice.
Outdoor pool: lovely! Please get more sun loungers though. A great place to be and plenty of space to swim.
Overall we had a great stay and I would recommend this hotel.
