Owner description: Located in the Gothic masterpiece of Santa Maria da Vitória Monastery, a special visit should be made to this chapel with its magnificent stained-glass windows, cloisters, Unfinished Chapel and the tombs of several Portuguese notables.

Impressive monastery with a rich history. The church visit is free. Spend at least an hour here if you want to explore the adjacent museum (extra cost) also. Can be done as a tour from Lisbon - I did it as part of the four town tour of Fatima, Nazare, Batalha and Obidos.

I went last time in 1989 with my late father and took some snaps there with him and my wife and 4 years old daughter. Visited again after near 40 years, just 2 weeks back with my 87 years uncle and my wife. Recapitulation of memory was as heavy as wonderful and near miraculous high rise Monestery, started construction in 12th century, can not be explained in language unless visited.

Having travelled o many many places - through France, Spain and Greece, Turkey and Bulgaria, and India, China, Thailand, Bali, the monastery at Batalha is arguably the most excitingly beautiful in the world. Even though one realises it was restored in the early 20th Century, the decorative elements, detailing of each pillar, each arch each ceiling and stained glass window merits viewing and reviewing every three steps one takes. Breathtaking, even after three days of returning to walk round it at night.

The best place in town. If you are going to Coimbra or stay some place around, you must visit the Mosteiro.
The hole place is incredible, and the history is fascinating.

The Batalha Monastery is gorgeous! The architecture is a gothic stile, enourmous and beautiful, located in Batalha City. It is easy to go there, it's near Fátima. It's worthy to visit and do not take so much time, you'll spend around 3 or 4 hours there, maybe less.
