Beautiful Monastery of Santa Maria da Vitória was built to commemorate the Battle of Aljubarrota won by John I, King of Portugal. The monastery construction started in 1385 and continued until mid-16th century. As a result, the immortal masterpiece was created which is considered to be the greatest Portuguese late Gothic monument.
Stunning monastery exterior is with abundance of elaborate statues, gargoyle, pillars, imposing portal matches the beauty of the magnificent interior with talks columns of the nave and white stone chapels full of light and air.
The cloisters are magical as well.
So worth a trip! One the highlights of our trip to Portigal for sure.
