Alfama is by far the best area of the city yo visit. The old streets, the famous tram and the beautiful colorful houses are a must.

Lovely view of Lisbon, good place to view trams, and Cathedral nearby. Quite a hike and pavements in Lisbon are pretty dreadful so be warned if you have mobility issues!
Toured this part of Lisbon by segway. Great area with lots to see and do. This is the area that I want to stay in the next time I visit Lisbon. Alfama is filled with shops and restaurants. Check it out!
What a great neighborhood!
My wife and I spent a good bit of time here during our visit. Easily accessible from the end of the blue-line metro (Santa Apolonia station).
Bring good walking shoes as there is a good bit of up-hill and down-hill all through the neighborhood.
There are a number of great options to eat (Wine-bars, full-service, pizza, gelato, etc..) and the people are super friendly. Along with the normal assortment of souvenir shops, there are opportunities to pick-up some really interesting and unique items. Don't be afraid to get off the beaten path.
Alfama is in relatively close proximity to the National Pantheon and an easy bus ride (#759) to the National Tile Museum. Both are great places to visit and I would recommend as well.
As you can read in the other reviews, this is an old and pittoresque part of town. We did this part on foot and by e-bike. Lots of hidden gems to discover!
