Owner description: A trip to Lisbon is not complete without a visit to one of its famous open-air markets, including one of the most popular called Feira da Ladra or "Thieves Market," which offers a little bit of everything.

The first thing I would warn people of is it a steep climb to the market. If you have mobility issues I would consider a cab to this place.

Im not sure if the market stall holders change positions on a weekly basis but when I visited the stall at the top of the hill are mainly arts and crafts and home made items up for sale. It has an Etsy atmosphere. As you travel down the hill it turns more to a car boot sale with people selling total garbage. I do like to look at other peoples junk but I honestly think these items should have went straight to landfill. This isn't even for comedy value but one person was even selling a (presumably used as wasnt in any type of packaging) black strap on complete with belt and straps.

You can spend about half and hour to an hour here before the fun amusement factor wears off.

Really good way spanding a couple of hours in the heart of Old Lisbon. At the end, it doesn't matter buying anything but already feel the smell and soul of the old city of LIsbon. Clean, neat and very interesting place, crowded in the early morning hours but nothing dramatic.

I am not a market person, but this market is a delight. Yes, there is a lot of junk being fobbed off as "vintage" but that is half the fun - just checking out what some of the vendors are trying to sell... like broken tools and board games with missing pieces and chargers for non-existent cel phones ... we had lots of laughs looking through this stuff. However, there are also some true "finds"... like rare Beatles 45s, functioning post-war typewriters, truly "vintage" clothing and local crafts. If nothing else, treat it like a free museum and bring along your sense of humour.

As other reviewers have correctly said, Portuguese flea markets are not everyone's cup of tea. I'm usually tolerant: I'll go with my wife but will skip through pretty quickly and then wait in a bar somewhere for her.

However I did find this market one of the more interesting ones I've been to. It had old things like projectors and cameras, pictures, records, tiles as well as the usual second hand clothes and books.

So if you've promised the missus one market trip, you might find this one better then the rest.

There are those who enjoy flea markets, there are those who don't. If you are one of the latter, you really don't need to visit this. I should have been more discriminating and begged off this visit, but swayed by sociability, I joined my group. There are acres and acres of old shoes, worn and new cheap clothes, and assorted bric a brac. If you put yourself into the right mood, and depending on what pleases you, you will probably find one or two items that catch your fancy—antique tools, ornate door knobs, electronic goods of unknown provenance. Mainly, I found it discouraging, a kind of last station before the garbage heap. I suspect I just don't have the patience or zest for the search... to each his own.
