Owner description: The National Palace of Sintra, located in the historic town centre, was inhabited for nearly eight centuries by the Portuguese monarchy and its court. It was much used, particularly during the Middle Ages, as a hunting retreat and as a refuge from outbreaks of disease in the capital, or as a summer resort, thanks to the town's more agreeable climate.

I took a tour of the Palace after a walk from the train station. There was a short line to get tickets and there was a ticket machine on the left side of the entrance. We did not get the audio guide, but there was Information in English in the rooms. The Palace was interesting, but certainly not the most elaborate one in Europe.

Spent around 2 hours wandering around the clearly marked route which was very helpful. Everything was well displayed and explained English. Unusual building full of history and very interesting. Not expensive entry seniors 6.50 euros.

We couldn't really understand what all the fuss was about. Very average architecture and not a huge amount of historic significance. Not actually that much to see. Queues eveyrwhere and a bit of a trek out of Lisbon. I would give it a miss.

Not the most beautiful palace I ever see, but still worth a visit. The painted ceilings are the biggest attraction with the birds, some in gold. A pity that around the garden there was a construction going on, because you have a nice view of the city centre of Sintra.

The Sintra national palace offered incredible audio tours that were well thought out and brought the history of the palace to life. We visited numerous other palaces in the area and could not get close to the same quality and experience. Highly recommended!
