Stayed xmas and new year 2016/17
the tower has rooms with a kitchen
which are quite acceptable
the hotel however has no dining facilities as the resteraunt and kitchen now belong to another company
It looks like the hotel has an agreement with the resteraunt but not fully
for example if they have a function on they dont want hotel guests in there after 9pm
the resteraunt food is fabulous however if you dont buy wine etc then the menu downgrades the the same fish or meat chice every night and the manager (not the waitrons) tend to look down on full board patrons

Room tip: avoid the lower floors

This was our fourth visit. We always stay here in Madeira. We love the location with its seaview, and it’s opposite the Forum shopping centre with its supermarket. The car park is essential for us.
Staff were always helpful and friendly. We had a problem with our hire car, not booked through the hotel, and they were very kind and helped us sort it out.
Rooms are spacious. We would have liked more places to put things down. In particular we’d have liked stands for our suitcases; cupboard space was also limited. There were 2 tables, both were packed with different things we needed!
The bed was rather hard, but we slept well. We are pleased to see that the renovated rooms now have proper double beds. I did hear noise from other rooms, but was never woken up. However I don’t think the hotel was anything like full, and don’t know what it would be like at busy times.
Adequate power sockets for recharging things. Guests can entertain themselves finding all the light switches, made more exciting because most lights have 2 switches. Despite the number of lights, the result is what I call gloomy, and designers call atmospheric. In other words, reading at night is difficult, bright lighting is only available in the kitchen area and the bathroom.
The renovated bathroom was fine. The toilet stopped flushing one morning, but the problem was resolved by the time we came back in the evening.
Wifi was almost perfect. It failed twice in the morning (on the second time it may have been the weather, which was awful). Otherwise it was fast and very reliable, better than many hotels.
We could identify one room cleaner by the limited work done on her days. All the others did a great job, but she didn’t make the bed properly, and skimping was her style. Management need to monitor this.
Laundry was expensive and very slow. We put in a small bag Monday morning, and the laundry was returned to our room on Thursday. After that, we washed everything in the sink.
We used the pool café several times. Service was fast, and friendly. The view from the hotel is fantastic, sadly guests can’t enjoy it from the sun-loungers, even with the glass walls, you need to be very close to the wall to enjoy it, because you have to look down to see the cliffs.
We hire a car, so a car park is essential. Unlike many hotels in Madeira they do have free parking. The car park is on a slope, and I’m glad I always hire an automatic. Some spaces are very small, and I’d recommend a small car, it’s much easier to park anywhere on the island. The biggest problem is when the hotel hosts events it can be difficult to find a space (often Friday and Saturday evenings). I’ve always managed it, so don’t know what would happen if no spaces were available. This might be more serious at peak season.
There’s a bus stop for Funchal just along the road. The Forum shopping centre, with Macdonald’s and a food court was really useful for us, and was a lively place to eat late evening, especially when the weather was cool or windy.
We’ll certainly plan to stay there again when we return.

Stayed in 7th floor with sea view. Basic, clean rooms with kitchenette, sofa, rest chair, tv and small dinner table. Quiet to sleep. Beds are hard if you are used to soft matress. Cleaning is good. Wifi and air conditioning works very fine!
Remember that the sea makes big noise when you keep balcony door open.
The pool area looks ok. On December it's mostly empty because of the winter weather. Pool water isn't heated.
Parking is free. There's a good restaurant in hotel so the parking lot can be full in the evenings during weekend.

Room tip: Seaside rooms at floors 7-11. Morning sun at rooms 805, 905...,evening sun 806,906, 807,907....

Stayed in Duas Torre during my round trip through Madeira for EUR 60 a night for a large room with seaview.

The staff was super friendly and they even brought me the beer to the Jacuzzi.

Room was large and clean, had a good standard and Internet was fast.

Definitely one of the better four star hotel in Funchal.
