Its a nice small church on the top, if you are up in the Monte it is no reason to miss this church. Have a walk around and enjoy the view of the island, perfect time for some selfies and family photos :)

The most important pilgrimage site in Madeira, this lovely 19th Century Church sits at the top of the hill, overlooking Funchal and the sea. It is just a few minutes walk from the Cable car station although it involves either a steepish climb uphill or a climb up a lot of steps.

The Church is lovely inside and features include chandeliers, paintings, a beautiful painted wooden ceiling and the tomb of Charles I of Habsburg.

A wonderful well-preserved church with beautiful ornate interiors and an awesome view looking down over Funchal.

One of many lovely churches in Madeira. LOTS of steps up to the church. Not very well maintained, not for the faint hearted or those who have vertigo! Interesting statue and local history.

This Church was built in the 18th century when Madeira was rich from wine and sugar. It has a lot of Flemish paintings but we particularly liked the original tiles. It has a painted ceiling to make it look as if there is a dome with people looking down from it. Well worth a visit, especially if you are looking for somewhere to get out of the rain!
