Description: An eating house that revives the environment lived cafes and taverns that have helped democratize the flavor snack, good steak, a piece of pig meat. A concept " Lisbon " and cuts across all ages, all statutes, all ethnicities and Trás . And we say , with the world's greatest pride , that " we are probably the only tavern in the world known for its Mirandesa meat nails !"

We know this restaurant since the first year it was open. And we visit it everys ummer. This year we we're again surprised by the high quality of the food. You can feel that the 'chefe de cozinha' is still evoluating. HLuis' passion for the traditional Portugese foods is combined with the knowledge of his experience in Masterchef Portugal. He gives the Portugese kitchen a hip and trendy look. The service is always very friendly and don't forget the incredible view on the castle when you eat opn the terrace outside!

Great food with a modern twist. Take great ingredients, brilliant staff, wonderful setting and put a modern twist on classic dishes and you have a recipe for a great meal - Tasca do Ze Tuga delivers with aplomb. The chefs menu is good value and a great way to sample a variety of the dishes on offer - we had a superb salad starter, a second spicy meatball taster, delicious bean soup, bacalhau a castelo ( rather like a kedgeree come fish cake mix ) which was delicious, pearvtart with sorbet and coffees plus one round of drinks for 25 euro a person. Well worth it in my opinion! They also have interesting and delicious vegetarian choices that don't involve cheese!!! Looking round the other tables everything looked delicious - portions are a good size without being OTT.

Traveling through Braganca, decided we stay for the night. Driving around to see the city and find a place we followed a sign saying Centro Historico. That's always a good choice to follow. It led us to a castle high on a hill and you could drive through the gates of the curtain wall. Single lane of course. Instant transformation to medieval times ! There were houses and businesses inside the walls and a smallish but beautiful castle somewhat in the center. We spotted this place and went in. Instant friendliness, as Paul the waiter made us feel right at home. Very nice interior of stone and wood, with cases displaying fish, hams, produce, garlic, peppers, and the many products that the genius behind this fantastic place (incredibly his name is Luis Portugal!) makes right on the premises, or at least nearby. Besides a first class restaurant with some of the best meals you will ever eat, he produces wines, beers, honey, preserves, breads, meats, and the world's absolutely best potato chips, a weakness of mine. We were lucky that we were there just before the season kicks off, and you can't even get reservations. Paul described couples from Germany, France, Sweden, Holland, Spain, and Italy as well as other countries that come just to spend a few days and eat here. However we had the place to ourselves most of the time and Luis was right there so we got to know him a little. What a great accomplishment he has made. I think if it pertains to food he does it. After our first night dining there (his hotel was full-they have 2 rooms) he called a friend, got us a room, and led us there in his car! Has anyone ever had such help and kindness from a chef / owner like this. It was also a great hotel for a great price. In a strange city at night we might have wandered for hours. So of course on our way back we stopped again in Braganca to repeat the experience. It was again delicious, warm, fun, inviting and excellent. Normally I like to try other things to broaden the perspective just that much more, but Tasca Do Ze Tuga is not to be passed up. I can't wait till I'm there again and see Luis' great smile and dine on his absolute mastery of cuisine. I have dined at many fine places in Madrid, Oslo, Helsinki, NYC, Los Angeles, Paris, Stockholm, Dusseldorf, Rome,Florence, Talinn, Maui,Chicago, and many other places. if you're anywhere near Braganca, make the trip and have the experience. My apologies to Luis, and Auntie, the assistant in the kitchen for taking so long to get this review posted, but camera problems and a misplaced SD card are to blame. see you soon , Luis !
