Great place to stay close to everything. Clean and comfortable. Only down side I had to leave early in the morning for the airport. No one told me that the taxi was cash only cleaned me out plus gave himself a good tip totally ripped off not happy with taxi company

If you want a quiet, clean and well located hotel to sleep in Oporto, Hotel America can be a good option.
In a walking distance to the center, this hotel has clean and quiet rooms, a good breakfast, parking and other facilities.
A fair trade!

We chose this for the price and the location.
We had 6 rooms, and all of us were OK with them.
It is noisy (if you are close to the bar you will hear it, we were in 200 above the restaurant and heard some of that as well).
The first night was really cold, but the heating worked and we turned it on the next day.
Breakfast is OK, but all the warm dishes were lukewarm because of bad hot plates. There is enough, and enough choice. Coffee is not great, but they do have an espresso machine if you are patient.
The bar is mostly empty and the wine was awful, but staff was friendly and helpful.
All in all, OK for the price we paid, but nothing special.
Wifi in the room was good, but not in the restaurant/bar (which is actually nice, because you talk to each other)

Room Tip: stay away from the first floor and the stairwell if you can.

We originally booked hotel de norte but was told there was a pipe issue and got moved farther out from the main street to the hotel American. It was a horrible small dark room in the back of the building. Reeked of smoke. Had mosquitoes. Leaking bathroom. Old beds heels. Wifi does not work. Terrible experience. Stay away.

Had Room 307, very small but very quite. The air conditioner was great and required sleeping under blanket. The large shower head was broken and within 2 hours of my reporting it, they had fixed it. Also the television had English speaking channels. The free breakfast would improve if they would use bacon or sausage not hot dog wieners. Isabel at the front desk was great.
