It's easy to get to this beach from Porto if you don't have a car. Hop on the tram that departs next to Igreja Monumento de São Francisco, and take it all the way to the end, just past Capela-Farol de São Miguel-o-Anjo. It is then a 10 minute walk to Farol Molhe do Douro and Praia do Carneiro.
Although it was warm and sunny in Porto, just 5.5km away, it was cold and foggy at the beach. The waves were strong and crashing on the lighthouse walls, so it was too dangerous to swim, but quite a sight to behold.
If you plan on swimming here, check the weather reports online before going. Also, bring water shoes; the beach is made of tiny rocks and pebbles that can hurt more sensitive feet :)
There are bathrooms available, and I passed a few restaurants on the way, so you could make a day of it without bringing a lunch.
