The resort is beautiful and the Villas themselves are impressive. But not all that glitters are gold – and this is very true for the The Village Coconut Island. The resort itself has a lot of potential, but does not follow up on it´s promise as a semi-luxury one.

We took the included shuttle boat provided by the resort and if was fast and efficient. We where greeted by the staff and the check-in was efficient and pleasant.
We where then taken to our villa by a small van and stumbled upon our first issue.
When we arrived the staff could not open the door as something was wrong with the lock. After about 30 min we could finally enter. This problem repeated itself 3 more times when we visited. The door would either not open or would not lock.

The overall resort is really well laid out and the villas (beach or sea view) are beautiful. Also there are a really good water slide that the kids played in for hours. And not to forget the private pool – perfect for an early morning swim. But in our villa, a section of the original tiles around the pool had been replace. And they where very, very slippery. So slippery that two of our kids hurt themselves and we ended up using some chairs to set up a perimeter around them.

It is marketed as a quality resort – but it is not reflected in the in-doors quality.
Sofas where stained, overall mouldy smell and the terrace doors could not be locked due to wear and tear. We are relatively new to island resorts, and this might be clear as day to seasoned island vacationers in Thailand – but you are not allowed to flush toilet paper... Also since all the water in the apartment was brown and there was a sewage odor in the bathrooms, I suspect there is some water recycling going on. We did not even consider brushing our teeth using tap water.

There are 3 restaurants on the island – and in August only two of them are open at the same day. The food ranges from good (Koko) to average in the Tamarind and The Deli who share kitchen.
The problem is that two days a week there is a Buffet/Show at the Tamaring – and both nights it was full when we tried to reserve a table. We decided to see if the resort had any cancelations but was turned down by the supervisor. If it is full – it is full we though. But then another family came and had the same discussion – but when they slipped the supervisor a 1000 Baht bill, suddenly there was an open table. What a surprise….
For breakfast the resturants are usually very full and if there a bit late you have to spend 5-10 min in line waiting for table.

The beach is just ok – and for the 4 days we stayed, no one used it. At low tide It is muddy and full of sharp shells and at high tide the water is murky. So everyone just used the resort pools that are actually very good.

And one last thing: “The Free High Speed Internet ( WiFi )” at the resort is useless and must only be available so the resort to tick it in the amenities list.

Would we go back? Most likely not. Especially not in high-season when the villas are almost twice the price as when we visited in August.

Dear Dr3amer,

thank for your information. Sorry for the late reply, TA had a software issue. Your review is from 4 years ago, not really relevant anymore. All your troubles are a thing of the past, complete overhaul, new management, new Spa team, new chef. We do much better now, please see our more recent reviews now.
Yours sincerely The TVCI Team

Been here for 1 night in a 5 bedrooms villa. The place was so big with 2 very big double bedrooms with Jacuzzi inside, 1 big double room, and 2 twin bedrooms, all en suits. The pool itself was so big, big kitchen, big dining room. I had a good time here. The only thing I may not like was the service, as the resort was too big, I had to wait for at least 20 min for anything I requested on phone. Staffs could speak perfect English, but some of them couldn't speak Thai. Breakfast was quite busy but acceptable. In overall, I love it here and will come back some other times.

Room tip: Beach front villas are superb !!!

Dear Lttipon,

Thank you for taking the time to review our resort here on Trip Advisor,
Its great to hear that you enjoyed our resort, especially the 5 bedroom beach front grand villa you stayed in. They are certainly a wow factor of our resort and accompanied by some of the best views in Phuket.
I must apologise however for the 20 minute wait on your room service, we actually consider 20 minutes within our standard delivery time, especially when considering the size of our property and the fact that at times we can have up to 700 guests in house.
Our future plans are to have butlers around the grand villas, so this will certainly shave off a few minutes in the future.
Thank you again and we certainly hope to welcome you back real soon, hopefully you can stay for a bit longer next time.
Tropical Regards

We were there for a week on our honeymoon and had booked the hotel through Interval. The hotel looks way better on the pictures than it is in real life. Also, it is located in a remote island, which you have to access through a boat that soars through muddy water, so you are left waiting a long time on a not very nice dock. It was certainly closer to some attractions than the Marriot Beach Club, where we stayed for the second week, but the service and the experience on the latter were way better.

Dear Evaristo,

Thank you kindly for reviewing our resort on Trip advisor,
Of course its very disappointing to read such a low score, however we strive off feedback in order for us to make further developments. I would very much like to learn where we fell short in regards to the service so i can address this with the team.
Although we are happy to partner up with interval, our resort is a very different concept to the Marriott and offers guests the real Thai island life experience with modern day luxuries,.
I apologise about the wait for the boats, at times this may occur when tides are extremely low.
In regards to our pictures, i will certainly pass on your comments to our sales and marketing team for their review, however i must stress that all of our photographs are genuine and have been taken quite recently,.
Thank you once again and please contact me (dan@thevillage-coconutisland.com) so you can share some more feedback.

From the moment I left Coconut Island last time I have longed to return.
And now I have finally have.
The Village with its exceptionally obliging staff felt like home once again.
A private island, no noise, no cars, no hassles.
So much to write: the huge impressive units with the most comfortable large beds, the style, the stunning ocean view, the restaurants, the extremely extensive breakfast buffet (could not try it all in a week), the infinity pools with long water slides, the luscious gardens, the free activities you have to pay for at other resorts (even sailing lessons are provided for free by an expert instructor), the well-equipped fitness centre, the spa complex staffed by high qualified therapists with hydro therapy pool and both sauna and steam room (pure bliss), even the bathrooms with free standing bathtub and rain showers inviting you.
The Village has it all.
From tranquillity to free evening entertainment.
I am already can’t wait to come back again.

Yes this place is amazing but the drawbacks are to be taken into consideration.
For instance, the three bed Villa on the beach is amazing. the design is luxurious, the bathrooms huge, the beds comfortable, the views to die for, the pool perfection and the kitchen fully fitted out. However there was a general damp smell when we entered and the dishes all had to be rinsed before we ate off them as the cupboards smelled awful. Two doors in the house didn't close properly. The two DVD players were faulty and there were numerous problems with light switches and bulbs being out. The poolside furniture was a little tired and one lounger was ripped.
Likewise the general/public areas cater for everything you would want - the restaurants serve good food, snacks and drinks and the staff are mainly friendly and helpful. But it took a few days to work out the system and often the service was poor - really from a lack of training and a continuity of how things work. For instance you can have drinks at the poolside but it seems you have to go to the bar to get them though some staff come and ask if they are serving other customers - making it annoying if you have that service one day but not the next.
The Kayaking and Sailing staff were great but things offered on the beach were not exactly what the website says. The 'inflatable donut and flying fish' is only one 'chariot ride' - its great but not exactly what the kids expected. I never saw any giant chess or jenga and still never worked out where the yoga was. The bikes were the most disappointing as there were no bikes for children and I had promised my daughter she could explore the island a little.
The boat across to the island was great funn for the kids and really makes you feel like you are 'away from it all' however if you were trying to make this your base and do loads of tours every day I think it may get frusatrating. You have to book the boat at least 1/2 and hour before you go and they are often full. I heard people discussing boats were fully booked hour before they set sail - if you weren't organised this could be annoying. Although the website says you can take trips direct from the hotel - the further away trips actually go from the Marina meaning you book the boat over then the trip. The trips however were excellent.
Generally these were small niggles and I could go on but really as other reviewers have said - if you are the type of person that gets upset about the little things - stay away. If you can take things in your stride then this is a good place for a beach holiday and ideal for kids to have a go at some water sports. It is just a little frustrating as this place could be excellent with better organizing and staff training. Hopefully it will improve - especially as my kids (aged 9 and 12) are desperate to return!

Room tip: Go for the beach front if you can. Nearer the pool and restaurant may be noisier but more convenient.

Dear Lisa M

With much delay w would like to thank you for your great review of your stay here. We had an issue with TA ( able to read but not response ) but in any case you more than deserve an answer regardless of the delay.
We changed quiet a bit ( to the better ) i hope, and a fresh management team is in place to make the best out of the Village.
Hope to have you back again one day

Sunny regards
