O&B was a great choice for our recent Athens visit. It's in the Thissio neighborhood, near the metro station, and 5 minutes' walk from tourist-central. First, the hotel is very, very nice, not snooty luxury but modern and well-kept. The staff is friendly and helpful. The complimentary breakfast is excellent.

The neighborhood looks a little rough around the edges, but we never felt unwelcome or unsafe. By day, the street fills up with vendors selling all kinds of flea-market stuff. There's a mix of shops. And the walls are plastered with graffiti—very cool artwork, actually.

The hotel is just off Ermou St., which leads straight down to Monastiraki and the touristy Plaka district. If being thronged with tourists in souvenir-stall jammed alleys is your thing, head for the Plaka. Otherwise, after seeing the sights (all walkable from the hotel, if you can handle a modest stroll) have dinner in the lively Psyrri district, near the hotel.

O&B doesn't have a roof bar or pool. But if you really want a nice hotel bar, head for a drink to the roof of Hotel Bretagne in Syntagma Square, about a 20 minute walk from the O&B. It's got a great view. It's also rich and snooty, and you'll be happy to find your way back to Thissio.

Look, Athens is not Paris—it's not romance and light. But it's a great and important city, and O&B makes you feel like you're staying in the real Athens, not some tourist resort.

We stayed here for one night in mid June. We were welcomed warmly. We had with balcony room with acropolis view. The view was particularly beautiful at night. We were served complimentary in-room welcome platter. Breakfast was good, ample choices for a boutique hotel. Acropolis was a 10 minute walk from hotel. The staff was very friendly. The only downside was the price we paid for the room, it was a bit high; but I guess that was due to June peak season.

My family of five stayed here on our last night in Athens before heading home. At first, I was a little concerned about the location because of all the graffiti. However, the entire city is covered in graffiti and does not determine safety. It is in an older and upcoming part of town and super charming. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The rooms were comfortable and cool, in fact...cold (super helpful for the hot month of August...last hotel in Athens was not nearly as cool). My family and I ate at a wonderful restaurant just a few blocks away called Lithos Tavern (YUMMY). I would most definitely recommend this hotel and would stay here again hands down!

The best feature of the O&B Athens Boutique Hotel is the service, hands-down. From check-in to check-out (and everything in between), everyone we encountered and spoke with at the hotel was extremely courteous and helpful. This was greatly appreciated, so kudos to them.

However, I am really at a loss as to how this hotel is ranked #5 on TA. While the rooms were comfortable enough, nothing really stood out to me. The bed was incredibly hard, there was a lot of street noise at night (even though we'd booked the Thissio room which I had read was supposed to be quieter than other rooms), and the location was slightly questionable (I've never seen that much graffiti ever in my life!).

While the hotel served its purpose for a one night stay, I would not plan on spending an extended amount of time here.

Breakfast tip: there are items on the a la carte menu that you can order (in addition to what is already laid out at the buffet) for no extra charge. The scrambled eggs and waffles were great!
