It's true what previous reviewers have said, some of the rooms are very tired (and the photos misleading), despite this the rooms are very clean and comfortable with lights in the right places, adequate mirrors for getting ready and most had good balconies (and with renovations underway the hotel are in the process of updating all the rooms.)
I cannot fault how welcoming, helpful and friendly the staff here are.
My husband and I used the gym throughout our stay and the pool, whilst small, was never crowded probably due to the hotel being based in the town therefore attracting a mix of guest (not all wanting to sit by the pool all day).
The breakfast was exceptional giving a choice of traditional Greek Dakos and boureki and Greek coffee to try, as well as the usual continental breakfast, cooked breakfast (eggs/sausage/bacon) fruit and yogurt and fresh juices- A real money saver to set you up for the day.
Location is great. A straight forward walk to the town square and the harbour ≤10 mins and during our stay we got a taxi to the beaches at Agii Apostoli (Iguana beach was lovely) which took 10 mins/7Euros (there is also a mini golf/bowling/entertainment centre here called Golden Funpark). We also saw buses than ran to the beach which would save money. To sum it up I would stay here again but opt for one of the refurbished rooms.

Room tip: Pool facing rooms have better balconies and are away from the busy road.

We stayed here in 2008, 2012 and 2016. This last stay (2016) we stayed in one of the redone rooms. Very nice and a lot different that the older rooms. Really good breakfast in the morning. Staff was very helpful. I wanted to ship some goods home and they went out of their way to set up everything through a shipper. About a 15 minute walk to Old Town. A grocery store about 2 blocks away. Swimming pool in the back. A very nice hotel to stay at.

i stayed last year at akali hotel and also in july 2014. i picked it twice because of the perfect location-5 minutes walk to the bus station and 5 minutes to the port with all the taverns etc- and also because of the friendly personnel of the hotel.

They were very helpful, they gave us a lot information about bus programme, places to visit and how to get there.

The rooms were clean and we didnt face any problem.

Value for money.

The website painted an entirely different picture. From the moment we checked in there was no one to greet us and help with luggage. Only one person manning the front desk who was checking in guests, answering enquiries and taking phone calls. The room was very old, decked with old furniture and had a stale smell. The staff were friendly but not enough of them. Pool was pretty pathetic, didn't look anything like the pictures. Enjoyed breakfast although took a while to top up. The location is about a 10min walk to the start of the main port area. Not really worth the rating and price.

Room tip: We will not be coming here again.

The hotel is in the middle of Chania on-touristy area. The beach is about a 10 minute walk and the old harbour. Our room was on the first floor overlooking the back of the hotel and the pool. The room on had 1 spare plug to use. The other 2 were for the TV and fridge, the actual socket if you were not careful came out of the wall, as we had to unplug the TV so that we could charge kindles etc. The air conditioning was not good we had it on full and @ 10 degrees, and it did not cool, so night time was uncomfortable as we went during their heatwave when it got up to 42 degrees. We also had to enquire one day when we would get the room cleaned etc. to be told that it could happen anytime up to 10pm and that if we wanted an early night to let reception know so that the housekeeping could be done in time.
The breakfast was very good a very good selection of greek foods, European, fresh fruits etc. The pool is not very big nor is the area around the pool, but the pool is clean and very refreshing. It can be noisy if as there is a main road that runs in front of the hotel. There is a bit of a parking area at the side of the hotel, but it is first come first served. There is also a fitness suite on the 4th floor. There is a spinning bike, treadmill, elliptical, normal bike, weights, multi gym, gym balls, towels are provided and also apples. The hotel also provides towels for the beach and the pool so you can save some weight in your luggage and not take a beach towel They also arrange trips. It is a good all round hotel. Despite the problems I would recommend it. The staff are very friendly and speak very good English. They will also book your transport to and from the airport if you contact them in advance of your arrival, if you are not going as part of a package.
