“Absolutely fantastic villa. Beautiful location, owned by a fantastic, welcoming family.”

I'm actually a bit nervous about writing this review as I don't want to miss anything out, as that would be a disservice to the Vasilakis family!

We flew into Chania, on Thomson (great flight) and hired a VW Transporter, arranged through the Villa owners. Yes, it is a drive from the airport. We used google maps and found the villa easily. It takes around 90 minutes, mostly motorway. The last 30 minutes are up into the hills. It's a safe drive but you need to be a confident driver I would say.

Having driven through the small village of Eleftherna, the Villa is just on the outskirts. We were met by George and his son who welcomed us, explained a few things and left behind a huge basket of fruit, olive oil, raki and honey. Just perfect.

As you will see from the Villa website, it is a stunning villa. The gardens are absolutely beautiful and lovingly maintained. The villa itself is immaculate. All mod cons, very clean and welcoming. It was lovely and cool inside, yet air conditioning is available/ There was always hot water too, when needed.

Externally, there are balconies/seating areas with every bedroom, plus a large seating area outside of the lounge/kitchen. That area has a gate that can be locked enabling little ones to roam free, safely.

The pool area is great. Lovely loungers, parasols and again, well-maintained. The pool is cleaned nightly by George. The pool area can also be fenced off so that little ones cannot access it, alone.

Next to the pool is a garden area complete with a bbq, spit roaster, sink, pizza oven, table and chairs and a hammock. It's a lovely area and again safe for the kids. A wide selection of herbs grow in the garden and you are encouraged to help yourself.

Inside the villa, the tv,dvd player and digital box are all modern. There's a comfortable seating area. The bedrooms are great, lots of room and lovely clean bedding. Plenty of towels are provided too. The bathrooms are modern and again clean.

The kitchen has everything that a family requires for a self-catering holiday. No expense spared by the owners.

I can't say enough about the villa. We were absolutely thrilled with it.

Location: The views are to die for. No other way of putting it, Mountains, flora and fauna and sea view. It is isolated. There are a few neighbours, a few low-key tavernas and a small shop. We did eat out at the Taverna Eleuthir, in the village. Service was lovely but the menu is limited.

We shopped at Lidl in Rethymon, about 30 minutes drive. If you shop there, there's also an organic shop in the same complex. The fruit, veg and other typically greek produce from there is fantastic. We used Lidl for alcohol, household goods, bread and meat only. Prices are cheaper than the UK.

We visited Rethymon Town, which we loved . The Old Town is wonderful. We parked near the City Park and then had a walk around. The market is fun and the port is also worth a visit. Shopping in the Old Town is great. Try Restaurant Alana is you're looking for something to eat. Fantastic.

We visited Bali to get our beach " fix". Shallow, sandy coves. Very clean with vehicular access down to the front. Great tavernas and also a " street food" eatery which is great value.

The Arkadi monastery is worth a visit as is Margarites. Eat at Taverna Mavrados. Great meal, great service and excellent value.

We were sad to leave. I think we'll definitely be back. We were surprised to find a huge, delicious cake in the kitchen one day, following a cleaners' visit. George, the Villa Owner, also brought over lamb for us to cook. The family are absolutely lovely.

Try it! You will not be disappointed.

“Beautifully appointed villa with perfect service.”

We stayed in June and have wanted to write this review since then but needed to find time. From the start of booking this villa we had great communication with George the owner. He answered all our questions and reassured us about our stay down to even arranging for his brother to meet us and show us how to find the villa on the night we arrived. The place is very nicely done out and we appreciated the extras of coffee machine and Internet access. The location is a little off the beaten track but we knew that on booking and used our hire car every day . The villa , garden and pool were kept very well by George's family . With George's mum giving us some very tasty cakes which we really enjoyed along with the welcome pack that had been left for us on arrival. George's dad kept outside lovely and was very good with our toddler. We found the villa excellent value for money and as a family of 8 we really enjoyed our time there and our holiday in Crete. If you are looking for a quiet spot to relax and unwind then this is the place for you.

“Perfect villa for a leisurely, comfortable holiday”

My husband and I absolutely loved the villa, the pretty little village of Eleftherna and the friendliness and hospitality of the Vasilakis family. The villa is perfect for 8 people and very clean and beautifully maintained. The garden is lovely. I would recommend this place without hesitation to anybody who wishes to visit Crete for a peaceful holiday, especially if, like us, they prefer the quiet of the mountains to the touristy beach spots.

“Beautiful villa, amazing views, child friendly, lovely owners, great stay!”
Reviewed 30 September 2013 for a stay in September 2013

We have just got back from a wonderful week in Villa Eleftherna. We were two families with three children under 2 and the villa suited us perfectly. Great thought has been given to safety for children with verandas, balconies, gardens and pool area all gated off.

The villa is spacious and clean and the owners are lovely. They left us a large basket of fruit, honey, wine and olive oil on arrival and came back with more gifts as the week went on.

I would recommend the villa without hesitation.

A car is definitely needed as the shop in the town is a bit useless for food so you need to travel further afield to stock up.

“A wonderful villa in a peaceful location, managed by a family who know the real meaning of service and hospitality.”
Reviewed 14 September 2013 for a stay in July 2013

Could all the excellent reviews about Villa Eleftherna really be true? We had booked the villa on the strength of the feedback from earlier guests and it turned out to be everything that was promised and more. The family team who own and manage the villa couldn't have been better hosts and in ten years of villa rentals we can honestly say we have never experienced such excellent service. The attention to detail, cleanliness and hospitality were far in excess of anything we have enjoyed elsewhere and when combined with the villa and its location, I defy anyone not to be impressed!

The villa itself is a real gem, sat atop the small village with views across the mountain ranges to the east and west, and northwards towards the coast. The interior is furnished to a high standard but it is the use of the outside space where the villa excels with plenty of places to sit and relax, whatever the time of day. We spent many hours in and around the pool, enjoying the many views without having to stir from our sunbeds. We had never rented anywhere with bikes before but we made full use of them to cycle around the locality on either the quiet roads or the many tracks which criss-cross the area. Although there were lots of restaurants within a short drive, we really enjoyed walking the 100 metres or so down into the village to enjoy the warm hospitality and good home cooking at the Eleuthir Taverna.

The modern shops and supermarket in Rethymnon were 30 minutes away and we took advantage of the barbecue in the garden to cook outside on several evenings, watching the sunset over the horizon. Our children enjoyed the fact that the villa had a wireless network whilst the rest of us enjoyed the fact that here was somewhere to truly escape the rat race, to soak up the endless sunshine and tranquillity. We wouldn't hesitate to return to the villa although when something is this good, we wouldn't be at all surprised to see it fully booked for years to come.
