We enjoyed very much our volcano tour, altghou it's not that spectacular and the hike was longer and more difficult than what we expected (too hot at noon in August). But you don't get to walk on a volcano everyday. The black rooks and dried lava flows are impresive and give an alien world feel. I always wanted to see dried lava flows. I found them gorgeous. It really gives you a perspective on the forces of nature. But I think this site is more impressive for geology and geography fans, not necesarely for your average tourist, who might be disappointed of the "pile of aride rooks". Other than the black volcanic rocks, the volcano itself doesn't seem much now (only 2 small gas vents and huge dried craters). But the guide we had (Max) was very good and provided lots of info, in great English. This made the experience much better and we learned lots of new things. View is beautiful from the top.

Do not waist your time or money.
A huge disappointment, its just a craggy rock with zero to see or do when you step on.
The crater is not even a crater, its just a bit of a hole in the ground with a small flume of gas.
And a helluva trek to get to it !!!

Only good thing about the tour is that view from the volcano was amazing, But the walk on the volcano with sun on head is unbearable (no shelter - it's a volcano!!). Without a good walking shoes, life become even more difficult. Bring water & sunblock as seen people fainting. (visited in July, 2016)

We did this as a part of an organised trip and it was great to get active on the active volcano and learn about what Santorini was in the past, the current dormant status and what may happen in the future.

Unique experience visiting the active vulcanic Kameni islands. Take the tour from the new port, to avoid the extra cost, time loss and queue to get down to the old port. The entry of the large vulcanic island costs 2,50 pp so bring small change. In summer it is a very hot no shelter (but fairly easy) walk, so be prepared. It is also very crowded on this island. Totally worth it though, bizar rocks, splendid views, active sulphuric vents. Diving from the boat at the hot springs is great fun! Sailing the caldera gives a good grasp of the enormity of the 1600 BC eruption. Thirissa is very commercial, good swimming on the northern side of the harbour (shelter, see picture).
