Manfreds is the ‘casual’ version of Michelin-stared restaurant Relae which is across the street. We did read that it was vegetable-forward, and we knew that it was more casual, but my wife and I left thinking we’d probably not return to Manfreds.
We had the 7 course tasting menu with the 3 wine pairing option. 2 of the 3 wines were ‘natural’ which really isn’t our style, and we weren’t given guidance on how many dishes each glass paired with. I was left wondering if I had to keep some wine left for the next dish, or if I should be done.
I also think one of the chefs was trying to perfect their cream sauce and bread crumb skills because almost all of the dishes that those two components.
On the good side...the steak tartare lived up to the hype. They also had a poached egg yoke with whipped potato which was AMAZING!
Bottom line: if you’re under 30, vegetarian, and somewhat hipster...this place is for you.
