“Great hotel!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 February 2012

We stayed here between 18 and 22 February and I can honestly say it was one of the nicest hotels I've stayed at. The location was perfect for us as we went to a concert at Vega which is just around the corner. There are also some great bars and restaurants in the area as it is near the Kodbyen district - Mother was a great restaurant and Klubben has had some good reviews. We went to Le Le Nha Hang and it was pretty pricey for what you get, so a warning!!

Firstly, the room - it was really cosy and well-decorated, and the bed was super-comfortable!!! As soon as we hit the pillow, we both went out like a light. The cleaners were very good too.

The staff at reception were friendly but in particular the guy who worked on the evening of tues 21st (writing this for the benefit of the owner who I know reads these!) - he went out of his way to ask us about our stay and what we had enjoyed and really made a good impression on us.

We didn't have the breakfast but the downstairs area looked great. There were some nice cafes in the area (especially cafe granola)

Copenhagen was a beautiful city and if we ever come back (perhaps in the summer next time!) we'll be sure to book a room at Bertram's Guldmelden.

Dear Tracy_Miles

Thank you for taking the time to post a review on your recent stay with us for the benefit of other TripAdvisor readers.

You correctly point out that there is a lot to see and do in the immediate vicinity - despite us being off center - as many other reviewers point out. A great selection of restaurants in all price classes - can be viewed on our website in the section TIPS.

Vega the concert center, hosts a number a events on a weekly basis including some world reknown names - and if you are lucky you could also bounce into them in our lobby.

Adam - who assisted you, thank's you for the compliments - but points out that he was only being himself, and sharing his knowledge of Copenhagen with you.

Good old fashioned hospitality is about the simple things, many of which you point out in your review.

Hope we have the pleasure of hosting you again.

We choose the Bertrams hotel based on a review in Wallpaper and also tripadvisor. All decent hotels in CPH are expensive so please bare that in mind. Overall this hotel was fine but I couldn't help feeling there must be better value to be found in the city.

Positives:
Location is out of town (aprox 20 mins walk) but in an up & coming area.
Hotel does have a homely feel rather than chain hotel.

Could be better:
Bathroom for a Superior room was very disappointing and old-fashioned. It was small, cold and had a plastic shower curtain with no bath tub.
Room was homely but showing signs of a lack of maintenance e.g. plaster chipped walls.
2-separate mattresses for the double-bed (and duvets)

Dear smoby

Thank you for taking the time to post a review of your recent stay with us. As always, I appreciate positive feedback as well as constructive criticism.

You draw the readers attention to our location, which is off city center but in an area, which as you point out is undergoing change in a positive sense.

With regards to your comments - a lack of maintenance - which surprises me, as myself and my family utilize substantial amount of time with our housekeepers and external contractors in maintaining our property. Unfortunately many guests somehow manage to ram their suitcases into the walls - both in the rooms and the corridors - chipping away plaster and leaving marks that require constant upkeep.

Being housed in an older building does have some challenges, the main one being the layout of the rooms and room facilities. Our bathrooms are not the largest - as pointed out by previous reviewers.

I have noted your other points, and will use them proactively if and when the financial turmoil that prevails comes to an end and allows room for improvement.

I hope that your trip to Copenhagen was otherwise enjoyable.

With its wood floors and chic antique furniture, oriental rugs, and original contemporary artwork throughout, Bertrams Hotel Guldsmeden looks like home---- a particularly charming home, that is, and one that, like most good homes, shows a bit of wear here and there. It’s a cozy and lovely place.

We stayed here for five nights in November and were delighted with the hotel. It’s conveniently located for those who don’t mind walking a bit (the town hall square is maybe ten minutes away by foot)... and for those who do mind, there’s a bus stop, right smack in front of the hotel, with buses coming every few minutes.

The walks back to the hotel were just what we wanted each night anyway, after eating the delicious food that Copenhagen chefs are known for all over the world. If you get a chance, by the way, DO go to Kodbyen’s Fiskbar (the oysters! the desserts!) and to Formel B. The hotel staff recommended the latter to us and we were very grateful for the suggestion.

Others have mentioned the high price of the hotel’s breakfast. It is a bit high, but for us, it was so worth it to sit down every morning to a wealth of choices: delicious Danish bread and butter, eggs, cheeses, fruits, cereals, yogurts, pastries... it all sounds pretty standard, but it wasn’t. The quality of the ingredients was very high. The coffee was good and plentiful. And the dining room is a kind of well-appointed and pretty eat-in kitchen, which contributed to the homelike atmosphere of the place.

The owner and his staff were, without exception, helpful and gracious. They've got a good thing going there.

Dear Vivianite

Thank you for taking the time to post a review of your stay with us.

As always, I appreciate that our guests take the time to provide us with feed back, both positive and constructive criticism.

We have updated our website with a selection of our favorite Copenhagen eateries. We do of course recommend others including Kødbyens Fiskebar.

Our organic breakfast buffet is something we do pride ourselves with. All suppliers and products are handpicked by my wife and myself to ensure product quality, and that we provide our guests with a fantastic start to the day.

In essence - staying with us is all about experiencing good old fashioned hospitality.

I had a room on the 3rd floor, in a Balinese style with two large windows letting the sunrise in every morning, a fantastic comfortable double bed, a desk for work with free wireless Internet access, enough space for my suitcase, wardrobe containing a robe, slippers, iron and ironing board, a large bathroom with a bathtub (like I requested), organic toiletries and hairdryer. There’s a lift from the reception, or you can choose to take the stairs for exercise. In the morning they serve organic breakfast in the dining area. On one occasion, when I didn’t have time for breakfast but rushed in for a quick coffee, the staff prompted me to at least have a homemade smoothie on the go. And it saved my morning for sure!
The only problem with this hotel is that you’re not tempted to go out clubbing as it’s so nice to come back “home” to your cozy room, made up to impeccable standard by the housekeeper every day and to jump into the snug bed for a night in instead.

Room Tip: I requested a bathtub in advance and was very pleased I did get a room with one. The staff really tr...

What a perfect little hotel! Wonderful rooms, ours with a balcony, four poster bed and original furnishing sourced from around the world. The neighborhood is away from the touristy areas of Nuhaven and close all the great restaurants, shops, bars and cafes of Vesterbro and Norrebro. The owner was always on hand with helpful advise and recommendations - of places that were actually great - not business ties with the hotel!
Already planning my return....

Room Tip: We had a room at the back, I can imagine that in a room at the front, you you be able to hear street...
