The museum is free, the cinema is not, but I highly recommend it, especially if you've never seen an IMAX movie. English dubbing is available via earphones, when asked for (free of charge).
The museum looks small at first glance, but it turns out it has a lot to offer, and we turned out to have too little time to really savour it. Take at least half a day for just the museum, and add to that the time for the various movies in the cinema.
Near the metro, so easily reached from the center.

A rainy day in Stockholm could absolutely be spent in the Swedish Museum of Natural History.
There is a lot to see, and both young and old should find new and interesting knowledge.
There is a wide range of exhibitions, from evolution to polar expeditions, minerals and animals. There was also an exhibition about souvenirs and what is and is not legal to buy, take out or in to a country. This should be a must for travellers! I definitely learned a lesson there...

This was a huge place to visit and explore the past history iof Sweden {a.k.a "Nordisca" museum}. The first thing you'll notice inside is an enormous wooden sculpture of the man who developed and funded the establishment of this museum. The halls and corridors are well set out and are filled with historical aritfacts and interesting dioramas of Swedish life through the ages. The dark tunnel and planetarium-styled room to view the "Aurora Borealis" is fun for kids to enjoy. There is a fantastic cafe/bistro on ground level for lunch or snacks but be prepared for a busy eatery. The home-made butter and free hot bread with you meal is a real delight.

Simply the best for me and my family. For toddlers it was the best thing I could think of. Our visit was so nice, the museum is huge with so many expeditions. I loved every minute of it. And the price was nothing! Free! I will definitely go again. It was sad that I couldn't go to the Cosmonova because the kids were young but I can't wait to visit that as well (:
