I visited Park Hotel several times more than 20 years ago and now returned with high expectations. Nothing important had changed, so it was like returning home. The setting of the hotel is absolutely beautiful.
We had the possibility to choose among several rooms, which all are furnished differently. The style in all rooms are like from my grand parents home back in the 1940'ies. Cozy and a lot of things as well as an overwhelming amount of interesting details, paintings, rugs, lamps, stained glass, still well maintained. We chose room 207 because it seemed less dark than the others and was largest. It had the largest balcony, facing the park. Some people complain that rooms smell and are damp and chilly. With gravity driven ventilation, this is what you get in old houses and that suits us just fine. The fittings of the bath room are starting to show signs of age and wear.
The room was extremely quiet and beds comfortable, providing for a good nights sleep.
The breakfast was quite good and ample enough.
The owner, an elderly Polish gentleman and his parrot Jaakko, loves to tell stories about the history of the house and shows photographs of numerous celebrities who paid a visit in the past. The parrot talks Swedish and might remind you about you paying your bill!
We had problems with the WiFi. Mails could be received but not sent. Whether the problem was with my laptop or the WiFi system was not resolved.
There are no new hotels of this kind. You just have to experience it while they last!
