Short version: I can't say enough good things about our family experience with Solstice Tours. We booked Jon F for a private guide for 2.5 days and it was the highlight of our week in Iceland. Hands-down the best vacation experience we've had as a family and we owe it all to Jon. Don't hesitate and don't bother reading any more reviews as I read them all, go reserve Jon now as your private guide before he's booked up!

Longer Version: After many weeks of research on trip advisor, we chose Jon F of Solstice tours for a private guide for our family of four - two kids both under 12 years old. I have experience traveling to other countries and booking private guides but nothing has come close to the experience we had with Solstice in Iceland. Jon was the perfect guide for our family, he was easy-going, flexible, patient and amazing with our kids. My son was sad on the last day because he didn't want our time with Jon to end. Jon made sure to come prepared each day with a clean vehicle, free wifi, plenty of water and a great plan for what to see each day - yet he kept it collaborative and flexible to ensure we got the most out of our time with him. As he got to know our family and our interests, he made several suggestions for improvised changes to where we might want to go and what we might want to see - and each suggestion was perfect. We saw all the usual sights, golden circle, south shore, glaciers & black sand beaches (my favorite) while still having time for some of Jon's "secret" locations that I can't list - need to protect his best material. In addition to suggesting great sights, Jon helped with our family photography, suggesting the best photo spots and even took some of the best photos of our family we have ever seen - it helps that he was a former artist. He also made sure to hang back and give us time to be alone as a family - something many guides do not understand. And when we were ready to leave any site, he dropped everything to get us moving. On top of all this, Jon was fantastic with our kids. He connected with them, made the trip fun and educational - and made sure they were engaged in the tour and had a say in the daily plans. My son now wants to be a geologist thanks to the lessons Jon shared with him. The best part of this experience, was that Jon did all the work and we did not have to worry about where to go, what sights to see in which order and how to get there. Solstice is a small company focused on personalized service - something the big tour providers cannot offer. So my suggestion is to stop reading any more reviews and to go book Job from Solstice right now - you won't regret it!

My partner and I took the combined Northern Lights and Golden circle tour with Jon Frosti at Solstice tours. We enjoyed ourselves immensely - Jon is a fantastic tour guide, both knowledgeable and friendly, who has added a number of really nice personal touches to his tours, such as stopping to try some Icelandic tomatoes or having some excellent hot chocolate on hand for the northern lights tour. The Golden Circle was brilliant and although we only saw very weak northern lights, Jon did his utmost to ensure we were able to see something on a night of low aurora activity and cloud cover. He even offered to take us out again a following night to try and see a better show. We felt that he went above and beyond in his efforts and would highly recommend Solstice tours to anyone visiting Reykjavic.

Great Tour with Jon Frosti on the Golden Circle and Northern Lights Tour.
Very informative and being in a small group was great. Jon was very attentive, listened to our expectations and exceeded them. I would highly recommend Jon.
Nice vehicle - great experience.
Saw some beautiful sights on both tours.

We took the Aqua Sapphire tour with Jon and had a fabulous day - a full 11 hours as advertised! My husband and I were traveling with another couple and were the only occupants of Jon's 12 passenger van, complete with free WiFi - much appreciated after the crappy service on the ship! Jon was friendly, VERY knowledgeable, and obviously proud if his country. We visited uncountable waterfalls, each more stunning than the last. The scenery was spectacular! He included rest stops, including an ice cream break and a stop for an Icelandic hot dog - who knew? Could not gave asked for more! Sending Jon a special Aloha from the two couples from The Big Island of Hawaii!

It was by pure luck that we wound up with Jon Frosti for our guide. We found him on Trip Advisor with lots of great reviews. All of our communications prior to arrival were through email - we could tell he was focused on our needs and expectations; making sure he planned a perfect itinerary for US for our 5 day tour of Iceland. He arranged great hotels for us each night which allowed us to cover a variety of experiences without spending more time traveling than necessary. Jon’s van is super comfortable with large windows and a skylight and can accommodate pretty large groups. We were 4 and had plenty of room to spread out. He has Wifi in the Van so he was able to get up-to-date weather and aurora forecasts and he uses a microphone to talk while traveling which allowed all of us to hear him.
What we discovered is that he is not just an official tour guide but knowledgeable on so many wonderful levels; geology, history, naturalist, environmentalist, botanist, aurorologist (If that isn’t a word it should be) and photographer. He is well respected by everyone we met and very low-key. Jon is fascinating and delightful company. Born and raised in Iceland but spent several years in the U.S. – his English is perfect.
Our original goal was to experience an Aurora – we got SO MUCH MORE! Jon made it clear to us a few weeks prior that it would be hit or miss; rain was in the forecast and if it remained cloudy at night we could miss the Aurora. Because Jon is such a great photographer he knew exactly where to take us for the most picturesque photo opportunity with the most spectacular backdrop. He helped us with our camera settings and when the clouds parted we got lucky . . . and we were ready. John took spectacular pictures of us at all the wonderful sites; waterfalls, glaciers, black sand beaches full of diamond hunks of glaciers, geysers, lava tube and canyons, to name ONLY a few. The 5 days flew – we will return, and we’ll be looking for Jon.
