Stayed for a week in July 2015, booking directly with the owner Dorianne who was very helpful, both before and during our stay. A welcome pack was left and she advised on buses, transfers, provided a hairdryer etc. I liked the fact she was there if needed but otherwise left us to it. It was hot and there were plenty of electric fans provided. I believe they are putting air-con in next year. The whole house & pool area was very clean and well maintained. Cars could be left safely under-cover and kept cool. Free Wi-Fi.
Spacious open plan lounge/kitchen/diner with full cooker/hob, fridge/freezer & cupboard/worktop space. Lovely private outdoor terrace with private pool & shower, 4 sun loungers and a gas BBQ although we didn't use the latter. Large table & 6 chairs with a canopy overhead so lovely for alfresco lunches, getting out of the sun etc.
There was a TV but we didn't use it - if there had been a DVD player we might have as my daughter took some DVDs but I don't go on holiday to watch TV. Maybe a good idea for the cooler months or for getting children out of the sun. The kitchen was well equipped - could maybe do with a microwave, although we managed. Also a pair of scissors for opening packets (unless Health & Safety doesn't allow these days?). But these are minor issues and certainly didn't impact on our stay.
The master bedroom had a double bed & a single bed with en-suite shower room. There wasn't a door between the bedroom and shower room - not a problem for me as I had the room to myself but I wouldn't have been keen if sharing. The other bedroom is a triple room with a shower room next door, where the washer is. Plenty of towels were available, for inside or by the pool.
The location is excellent if you want to be near to the capital Victoria/Rabat but not in it. It's an 8 minute walk at the most to the centre from the farmhouse or the 308, 309 and 311 buses go past daytime and evening. There is a store just across the road and La Stanza restaurant is round the corner.
We previously stayed twice in Gharb (2007 & 2009) but found ourselves going into the capital a lot to shop or eat because the bus service wasn't good then and you really had to have a car or use taxis. This time on arrival in Malta we used a company Dorianne recommended & arranged (thank you, Dorianne!) to get from the airport to the farmhouse. The bus service has now improved on Gozo so it's worth using (air-con and they run daytime and evening). On departure, as we weren't rushing to catch a flight, we used the bus to go to Mgarr to catch the ferry to Malta. We could also use the passes on Malta so very good value.
I would recommend a trip to Xlendi, which has a lovely bay with bars/restaurants but only a small beach. Marsalforn has a larger bay and lots of restaurants, good for an evening out. Gozo is quiet but that's why I love it - it doesn't feel commercial or over-developed. Not to everyone's taste but if you want all-night bars, go to Ibiza :)
I would definitely stay here again.
