What one sees are the skeletal remains of a Mediterranean ship that sailed about 3000 years ago. There are intact amphorae that the ship carried, fossilized almonds found in an amphora, and lead weights used in the ship's rigging.

Well worth the visit incredible that it is so well preserved after so many years
Probably best not to visit when there are too many people because it is not a one-way system and it is very crowded on the stairway

Inside Kyrenia castle, which is a typical 11c castle. Interesting story of a ship found nearby. Original ship on display as well as original artefacts and replicas.

The Kyrenia skipwreck was a disaster waiting to happen.
Since the boat was discovered last century, it has enjoyed a calm life out of the water in the shipwreck museum at Lyrenia Castle.
One wonders how much longer the wood will survive in the dry atmosphere of the museum, however.

When visiting the castle you must take time to walk the wooden stairs to see the ancient shipwreck which is well preserved. The information about the wreck is comprehensive
