A little disappointed

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 14 Oct 2019
We stayed at the Hotel Europa one night on a visit to Graz. I'll have to say I was a little disappointed in this hotel. The hotel is very convenient to the Hauptbahnhof and was a comfortable walk to the downtown. The air conditioning/fan in the room did not work though, so we had to have the windows open all night. Since our room was directly facing the Hauptbahnhof, it was very noisy.
Date of stay: September 2019
Room Tip: Ask for a room that does not face the Hauptbahnhof.

Have visited Graz for more than 50 years with family from here, but now longer the case, so this is the first time in Graz staying in a hotel. This hotel was picked for all round convenience with business to tidy up, friends and business meetings all in a week. The location could not be better opposite the train station. The trains are good from the airport usually 2 an hour but on Saturdays less frequent. Situated here there are tram and bus stops close by which take you in a variety of areas.
The hotel is modern and has a roomy reception except when coach tours come in. Rooms are bright and well equipped. In our double room my wife and I had tea and coffee facilities, but it transpired that a similar room booked from my sister did not have this, and sadly we only found out at the end of the stay.
The room was really quite warm, though there is A/C but this is noisey. We slept with the windows open but the outside noise 4 floors up was also disturbing. This would be great in winter but no so good in autumn when weather can be warm. Twice we were disappointed to have to leave notes for housekeeping as there was no soap in the dispenser for the shower, and once for the non replenishment of tea and coffee as well as a used cup with tea bag still in left when we returned at the end of the day.
Breakfast is served during a long period from 6.30 onward. There is plenty of room and a good selection of items to choose from, but if there is a group in then this will be busy. Boiled eggs were hit and miss. We were told they were 5 min eggs but we had two occasions when they were not cooked properly.
Summing up, a good place to stay for transport, but let down a little by patchy room service, and facilities. Be sure to check when you arrive, that you have what you should have.

Room tip: High up room near back.

We’ve stayed here before and we return because it’s clean, convenient to the Hauptbahnhof (exit the station, cross the street and walk to the right about one block), and has the best buffet breakfast of the past couple dozen European hotels we’ve stayed in. Friendly; helpful staff. The hotel has CNN. Our room was quiet and offered a reasonable amount of space. The only negative: our beds were hard and didn’t enhance a good sleep experience. Except for the beds I would give this place a 5.

Only stayed one night, but wish we could've stayed for 3 if our itinerary would've allowed us. A basic hotel that looks slightly better interiorly than it does from the outside. Did not have breakfast so can't comment on food. Rooms we're ok with dodgy retro carpet and dated furniture but most importantly they were clean. Location was a 15 minute walk from the old town, with the majority of the stroll down one straight road. The hotel has parking but at a cost, whereas at the rear of the hotel parking can be made overnight for free but wardens are active during business hours. We walked to and from day and night and felt safe throughout...

After a handful of European trips, this is by far the nicest, most well-appointed hotel we have experienced. Everything was very new and stylish with the facility and the staff was on top of their game. The room was extremely clean and the bed was comfortable. Located just across the street from the Hauptbanhof and adjacent to a grocery store and restaurants. Would definitely recommend for anyone visiting the area.
