A nice 3day trip to Graz

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 10 Nov 2023via mobile
Very near to the main train station. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. The room clean and they even changed the towels after one night! There is a cheap and good restaurant near the hotel. From the hotel it is a short walk (about 15 minutes) to the city centre. There are four tramlines leading there. A 24 hour ticket costs a bit over 6 Euros and you can take every public transport - even the funicular up the mountain to the clocktower.

This hotel is perfect for those arriving by train as right across the road from the main station, probably the closest hotel.

Several places to eat and drink if arriving late as I was, though it's a decent walk to all the main sites, prob 1.5 km, but as it's so close to the station there are multiple tram and bus options.

Didn't have breakfast there as was 19 EUR which is very expensive for a buffet breakfast.

Rooms were nice and modern, although something very weird. My bed was vibrating, the same as you experience when there is music with a heavy bass underneath you. Fortunately there was another single bed in the room so I swapped and all was fine. I still can't explain it :)

But would highly recommend if coming by train, especially when there for 24 hrs like I was, but if staying several days you may want to stay somewhere closer to the old town.

A brief one night stay at the hotel while travelling through Europe, hotel was easy to find as it was directly opposite the main railway station. Staff were polite and friendly and the room there was quite fine and no complaints.

Despite its bland exterior the interior is modern and fresh. We stayed twice, once on the second floor and once on the third. The second floor room was reasonably spacious and comfortable. The third floor room was very spacious and accommodated two suitcases being left open. The rooms are clean.

As others have noted, the rooms are unusually hot and the thermostate/air conditioning does not address the issue. Our rooms were at the back but the second floor has a large flat roof under the window so opening the window on that floor doesn't feel safe. If you stay, get a room on the third floor or above so you can leave the windows open. Road noise is not bad. This hotel is by no means a poor choice but I explore other choices were I to stay again simply because of the poor A/C issue.

Another thing to consider: breakfast costs an eye watering 16 euros per person and the choices in no way justify the cost.

As others have also noted, being directly across the road from the hauptbanhof makes taking trams into town a breeze.

We stayed at the Hotel Europa one night on a visit to Graz. I'll have to say I was a little disappointed in this hotel. The hotel is very convenient to the Hauptbahnhof and was a comfortable walk to the downtown. The air conditioning/fan in the room did not work though, so we had to have the windows open all night. Since our room was directly facing the Hauptbahnhof, it was very noisy.

Room tip: Ask for a room that does not face the Hauptbahnhof.

Have visited Graz for more than 50 years with family from here, but now longer the case, so this is the first time in Graz staying in a hotel. This hotel was picked for all round convenience with business to tidy up, friends and business meetings all in a week. The location could not be better opposite the train station. The trains are good from the airport usually 2 an hour but on Saturdays less frequent. Situated here there are tram and bus stops close by which take you in a variety of areas.
The hotel is modern and has a roomy reception except when coach tours come in. Rooms are bright and well equipped. In our double room my wife and I had tea and coffee facilities, but it transpired that a similar room booked from my sister did not have this, and sadly we only found out at the end of the stay.
The room was really quite warm, though there is A/C but this is noisey. We slept with the windows open but the outside noise 4 floors up was also disturbing. This would be great in winter but no so good in autumn when weather can be warm. Twice we were disappointed to have to leave notes for housekeeping as there was no soap in the dispenser for the shower, and once for the non replenishment of tea and coffee as well as a used cup with tea bag still in left when we returned at the end of the day.
Breakfast is served during a long period from 6.30 onward. There is plenty of room and a good selection of items to choose from, but if there is a group in then this will be busy. Boiled eggs were hit and miss. We were told they were 5 min eggs but we had two occasions when they were not cooked properly.
Summing up, a good place to stay for transport, but let down a little by patchy room service, and facilities. Be sure to check when you arrive, that you have what you should have.

Room tip: High up room near back.
