Soviet inspired architecture is not a good look at any time. The staff had all left the coat hangers in their jackets when they put them on. The ultimate stinginess is charging for WIFI! At those prices why market yourself as miserable?

Dear Pdunchob,

Having read your comments about the "Soviet-inspired" architecture of the hotel, I would like to clarify that it is actually a fine example of functionalism architecture. The principle is that architects should design a building based on the purpose of that building - "form follows function".

This architecture was created in the U.S, in the early years of the 20th century by Chicago architect Louis Sullivan. Sullivan's protégé Frank Lloyd Wright is also cited as an exemplar of functional design.
The hotel itself was designed by the famous Chicago-based architects Holabird & Root.

Whilst the estetics of the outside of the building can certainly be discussed, the interior - with it's rich wooden panelling and beautiful chandeliers - immediately makes the visitor feel that one has arrived in Vienna.

We stayed here for 3 nights. We arrived at the train station across the road, looked at the building and went yuck! But upon walking into the lobby we were impressed - it is quite grand and we were greeted by a lovely lady at the check-in desk. The rooms are a good size with a king bed and room faciliies are as you'd expect from an Intercontinental hotel. It is located on the Ringstrasse with great transport closeby or an easy 10-15 minute walk into the heart of Vienna. Two suggestion however, firstly there plenty of bell-boys available to open doors etc but they seem to stand around not doing anything much. Also, free wifi was not available and to me this is unacceptable in this day and age for a 5 star hotel. Whilst in Vienna, I'd recommend doing a walking tour and visiting the palaces - if you can get a 'Gold Pass', it will allow you to skip long cues at both the Hofburg and Schonbrunn Palaces. The Imperial Apartments and Sisi Museum are a highlight.

This hotel was situated very nicely right on the outskirts of the city. I spent one evening at the hotel. I arrived mid-afternoon and spent the night seeing a classical music production (on the same block as the hotel) and then at night walked around the city. I came back to the hotel at midnight to a lively restaurant and active bar. I had the wiener schnitzel (of course). The hotel doesn't look so great from the outside but as soon as you walk in the place is gorgeous. My room was large and (since I was luckily on the corner) had two windows looking over the park. There is a train station directly across the street from the hotel and one of the major central stations is a short walk away as well. Excellent stay. Only way it could have been better would've been if I stayed longer!

I've spent fantastic three days in this hotel. Location in great - all palaces and museums are in walkable distance from this place. In front of the hotel is a City park. Really pleasant place. There is a kursalon in this park, it was the first one in a city, you can listen Mozart and Schubert there. Concert is not cheap, but very pleasant. There are a couple of restaurants in the park. I had there the biggest pork ribs portion in my life.
Reception staff is very friendly, helpful and all of them speak a very good English. Very nice girl at the concierge desk. Yong boys in the bar a little bit sleepy, but in general impression is good. Rooms are a bit small but clean and there is all you need. Air condition is very good (it was +32C outside). Mattresses and bedding are very comfortable.
Breakfast buffet has a VERY good choice - including miso soup and other interesting options. Sauna is also nice - cozy and clean. There was nobody when I came there about 4pm. Facade is not beautiful (was built in 60th), but interior is impressive - dark wood and crystal. Menu in restaurant is not very big, but food is nice. Prices are high - like in all hotels of this level. Bell-staff is very polite and friendly.
I definitely recommend this hotel.

I read many reviews of the InterContinental Vienna and also about the exterior. And I have to say its true that the outside does not look like a luxury hotel at all. But once you step inside its a totally different world. The staffs are incredible friendly and helpful. I had a Junior suite in the 11th floor. The room has a classic design and very well appointed. It has separate living room and bed room. The bathroom is very spacious with separate bath tube, walk in shower and toilet. The view over the Stadtpark is fantastic special at night. I paid about 70€ to have the club lounge access at the 12th floor. Lunch and dinner time there is some small finger foods, soup and salad available. Breakfast can be taken at the restaurant, club lounge or room service.

After the stay at IC I wanted to try the Hilton (opposite of IC). I had a Park living suite in the 11th floor (why always 11th floor ^^). The room is very very spacious, modern and very bright but somehow boring because lacking of contrast. The staffs were nice but kind of impersonal.

Just the first day and I already missed the the InterContinental. All in all I would definitely stay at InterContinental Vienna if I come back.
