There is so much variety to see here and lots of great masters. Currently they are showing off the Klimt arch paintings on a special platform so you can get close. Make sure you don’t skip the smaller side rooms as great pieces are here; pick up a leaflet that highlights where the great works are.

One of our favourite museums in Vienna, you could spend many hours wandering the halls. We bought a combined ticket which covered this and the Imperial Treasury, a good option as this saves €7, and both were well worth visiting.
Make sure explore the whole museum to avoid missing any of the amazing works. Definitely a place to which you could return several times.

The Stairway to Klimt was the primary reason for us being in Vienna at this time, so this was special. The stairs and bridge at 12metres allow close and personal views of the fabulous wall paintings. Another major attraction is The Shape of Time where we are invited to look backwards and forwards is an interesting, absorbing and huge exhibition. We ran out of time, so didn’t manage to do it justice. Nor did we get to use the beautiful cafe. A whole day should be allocated to this amazing place, which brides and grooms also seem to use to take post wedding photos in.
