I'd been passing by the Kaffeeküche daily on my way to work at the university and had always noticed the long lines of people getting their morning coffee. I've now found out why there's a line - their coffee is absolutely superb. Not a trace of bitterness, creamy milk, no nonsense. Probably the best coffee I've had in Vienna. I haven't had the hot chocolate but have heard good things about it as well.
This isn't a posh local - you'll find no newspapers on sticks or waiters, just take away and a small self-service seating area - but it's right next to the university and it buzzes during term time as hundreds of students pass by in the morning to get their caffeine fix before heading off to lectures.
Local tip: Stay on your toes at busy times as you don't need to be right at the front of the line to get served - rather than serving people one by one they'll take a bunch of orders at once, start making the coffees then go round again for payment.
