This old, beautiful fortress is still standing tall, after several hundred years. It's free to walk around outside, but you will have to pay for the guided tour on the inside. Well worth it if you're a bit interested in history. There's a museum shop.

We visited the castle and fortress quite by chance as we had a couple of hours to fill. Nice open areas and great views from the fortress walls.

I like walking around here because it gave a nice view of the city. My friend and I walked around at night, nothing is open to check out. Be careful as some parts are icy (my friend fell). There was a guard in front of the church part, but he said that it is only open in the summer. It is a big fortress and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys visiting such a monument.

Another old castle to visit but this one you can see why it was built where it was built. The view from the edge of the castle will tell you why. Nothing much to see here when we went except that we saw a few military recruits doing their stuff and it was quite fascinating to see such an old heritage building being put to good modern uses.

One of the main historical buildings in Oslo, sitting on a rise by the side of the main harbour. It was built in around 1300 with changes made in the 17th century.

Whilst we walked all around the castle, it is a shame that it is closed at present for maintenance.

You get some lovely views of the fjord from the castle.
