First the good points
Lovely building and a great location on the sea front. Reception, lounge, library and bar area all very well presented, comfortable and with a nice relaxing atmosphere. Dining room well laid out and tables had nice clean linen table cloths. Breakfast was excellent. View from bedroom overlooking sea was wonderful. Huge comfortable bed. Friendly staff.

Not so good points.
We paid extra for an executive room with a sea view but the state of the room left a bit to be desired. The floor tiles in the bathroom were severely cracked and grout was missing from some of the joints. The net curtains leading onto the balcony were torn and could certainly do with a wash. The balcony itself was grim. It looked like fungi was growing around the pipes but a closer look revealed it to be expanded polystyrene that had turned orange. The paintwork was generally poor with chips out of the door frame, scuff marks on the wall and the furniture had seen better days. The reception and bar staff were very smart but a couple of the breakfast servers looked a little sloppy with loosened ties and shirts.
It needs a lick of paint and a bit of TLC and then it could warrant its four star rating.

We had a double sea view room with a balcony. It also had air conditioning which was a real bonus. Breakfast was good and plentiful. The sausages were the only let down! The bar area was busy but there were lots of seats around. Really enjoyed our two night break.

Room Tip: First floor room with balcony was perfect

I stayed at this hotel for one night over this weekend gone. The room was tired, tiles discoloured and chipped in bathroom, sink plug blocked, toilet handle broken, windows very dirty and rubbish left on floor, possibly from previous guests? The bed was comfy, sheets appeared clean and breakfast was adequate although the plates in the restaurant were dirty! For over £104 for one night, not worth the cost!!

Sadly this hotel is the most depressing I've stayed in in a long time. Tired all round. On the positive side the sea view room has large and the breakfast plates were hot . But that's about it. It's quite difficult to spoil a full English but they managed it. All the fruit was out of tins, the fried eggs were hard and the sausages unappetising . No service either. You even had to make your own tea or coffee.
It's a lovely old building but is being neglected - so come on management. Give it some attention or send for the hotel inspector!

Spent 4 nights at the hotel. We were given a huge room with airconditioning, an enormous verandah and a newly renovated bathroom. When you first walked in it looked good. if a bit dated. On a closer look though two of the chairs had tears in them and the glass on the doors was filthy. So much so I actually cleaned one just to be able to see the superb view. The reception staff were very aloof and offhand and they have a strange rule of having to get pre authorisation to sign for anything and charge it to the room. This was a major irritation and I have never been asked to do this before in any hotel I have ever stayed in.
The biggest problem was the airconditioning. It worked for about 5 hours a night and then just switched off. It was like batting my head on a brick wall to get this sorted out as all the maintenance man did was pull out the plug and put it back in. Yesterday I lost my rag completely and asked to see the Duty Manager whose name is Lucas. He was fantastic and read the manual online and fixed the problem at around 7pm and it worked perfectly. I cannot understand why the Reception/Maintenance staff did not at least advise him there was a problem. They had 4 days to sort it out, but did absolutely nothing at all until I hit the roof yesterday. The problem as I see it is not the hotel, it is the staff! Housekeeping should tell Management about the rips in the chairs, the filthy glass windows and doors etc. What have I learnt from this - ask for a member of the Management team to begin with!!!! O another thing is the food in the hotel is outrageously expensive for what is produced. COME ON BRITANNIA = you have an hotel in a great position. Run it properly!
