£8 a night parking in the tinyest unlit car park, scandalous!! Room grim, reception tacky and they didn't even clean my room or replenish tea bags etc. Definitely not 4 star as there were no biscuits. Moved to the mermaid which is 10/10 and cheaper and free parking

A very disappointing stay. We had 2 nights booked and when we went to the room the phone wasn’t working, 3 out of 4 plug sockets didn’t work, 1 flat pillow on each bed and they had 1 cup for 2 people staying. I used my mobile to contact reception and they said they’d send someone up, but they never arrived. Later that evening we spoke to reception and they didn’t seem too fussed about the issues. They said the room was booked for 1 person, which is untrue as shown on the booking form. The TV had someone else’s details on it - not very secure. On the 2nd day our room key stopped working.

We asked for a quiet room but both nights I was woken up by people shouting in the car-park area.

The restaurant was closed and we were directed to the nearest restaurant 15 minute walk away, only to return to see they were allowing people to order takeaways to their room. Struck me as odd that they didn’t mention that was another option after we had travelled a fair distance that day.

If I was booking again to go to Ipswich, I wouldn’t be booking this hotel.

I have stayed at the Penta Hotel a few times for Business and the last time I stayed was a sleep deprived night and the rooms TV didnt even work.

The TV was an issue as it didnt work and the receptionist, although polite, wasnt helpful at resolving it and couldnt move rooms due to poor ventilation at couldnt move me.

The sleep wasnt actually a sleep as a loud annoying water dripping noise from the toilet was constant and LOUD at that time of night so avoid room 46 especially, but my advice would be to avoid the hotel completely because if you do have an issue, be sure as eggs are eggs that the problem will not be resolved for you.

Room tip: avoid room 46

After booking this 4 star hotel through Booking.com we were excited to stay at this hotel.
First impressions on arrival, going the reception area to be a bit 'tacky' and not as nice as the online photos show. Felt it was a bit 18-30s instead of a professional 4 star hotel.
We were allowed to check in earlier which was good.
On entering the room we found it to be clean and tidy but the wide screen TV was off the wall and left balancing unplugged unsecured on a chair. We did report this to reception and it was put back on the wall and set up by the time we returned to our room later in the night.
The room was advertised as having an air cooling system. It did have this but it was extremely noisy, too noisy to have on when trying to sleep. It wasn't working properly and we could not turn it off via the control panel as it was broken. The only way we could turn it off was to remind the entrance car key out of the power slot which provided the room with power. This meant whilst it was off we had no lights or electric to charge our phones etc throughout the night.
Shower area was clean ut there were no 'pinchable' toiletries as it had been advertised as. They were provided but in big containers you couldn't take home.
Room wqs right next to a main road and even during the early hours of the morning, could hear cars whizzing up and down.
Nice big bed but the bed sheets were hard, rough and cardboard like. Not soft and snuggly as you would hope. Reminded me of hospital bed sheets.
I guess it's a case of 'you get what you pay for'.
Disappointed bearing in mind its meant to be 4 star. The year before we had chosen to stay at the travel lodge which at the time was around the same price and basic but was more comfortable and came across more professional.
Parking wasn't meant to be free like the travel lodge. £8 for 24 hrs but after reporting the issue with our air con system we were let off paying it.
Would we stay there again? Probably not unfortunately.

Just come back from a 2 night stay at this hotel. Checking in easy, parking a bit if a pain in the rain as couldn’t get a place at front of hotel and ticket machine not working but the overflow parking is nearby. Room, clean and functional. Only 1 cup, 1 spoon, in room for a coffee/ tea. Only 1 pillow each on bed so if you like 2 take your own. Noisy neighbours, doors banging till 6.38am! But that’s the negatives. Now positives, dog friendly hotel with well thought out and lovely downstairs/ lounge and bar area. Nice polite helpful staff. Breakfast buffet style and adequate. Situated in an area near train station and close to all amenities. Overall value for money. Will be back.

Room tip: Take change for the overflow parking
