On a trip to the Yorkshire Coast we fancied an Indian meal whilst in Scarborough, after checking the reviews we decided to give Rice and Spice a try. This small restaurant in a basement is tucked away on a side street and on our visit on a Monday night it was quiet with just one other couple dining. We were greeted by a friendly young woman who showed us to a table and took an order for drinks, then the owner came over with menus and made us feel very welcome. We went for the usual poppadoms which were fresh and crisp, and no sign of oil that can often spoil these great snacks, the chutney tray was great with four items - mango, onion, spicy sauce and mint - delicious and enough for four pops. For mains I went for the Mixed Tandoori Grill, which was cooked to perfection, tasty pieces of chicken and lamb tikka, a seek kebab, and a chicken tandoori leg and side salad, there was no rice or sauce included, but I was planning on pinching some from Caths order which consisted of special garlic chicken, garlic rice and a garlic and chilli naan bread (with all that garlic we were never going to be troubled by vampires). Both plates were soon empty and we agreed it was a great meal, the service was prompt and efficient, Oh, and the two pints of kingfisher lager and a couple of house wines went down well also. All in all a great dining experience, good value and very much recommended.
